MOCA, Dominican Republic.- Cibao (north) region poultry producers have announced another increase, of RD$5.00 per pound of chicken starting August 15 due to the rising price of raw materials used by the farming production.
The President of the Cayetano Germosen Poultry Farmers Association said the increase will be agreed with the Government.
Victor Abreu Caceres, who’s also the Executive Branch “Poultry adviser,” said after signing the agreement between producers, the Consumer Protection Agency and the Agriculture Ministry to sell chicken at RD$46.00 per pound, the price of feed has jumped more than 36%.
Quoted by diariolibre.com, Abreu said via the agreement the price of chicken would be set taking production costs into account and would be reviewed every 30 days. "Unfortunately producers cannot continue producing high raw material costs, with high electricity rates and an adjustment to the wage of their employees."
