Santo Domingo.- Industries and motorists who spent considerable amounts of money to convert to natural gas, considered the fuel of the future, are now concerned with the constant and significant increases in its prices.

From July 22, 2005 to date, natural gas has jumped 40.6%, from RD$18.10 to RD$30.50 per cubic meter this week, or RD$12.4 more during that period.

Since 2005 more than 52 industries have invested heavily in equipment and machinery to change their production processes by converting to natural gas, while more than 6,000 light vehicles and heavy vehicles began using the fuel looking to lower costs.

When DT on Tuesday asked AES Dominicana, the country’s only natural gas importer for a comment, they said they would issue a statement.
