Santo Domingo.- The State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE) paid the power companies US$514.87 million last week as part of the debt accumulated from January to August, easing concern of the national grid’s collapse
The funds came from the US$500.0 million bond approved by Congress for that purpose, and the rest borrowed from the State-owned bank BanReservas.
In a statement, CDEEE CEO Ruben Bichara said the Central Banke and the Finance Ministry collaborated with the transaction.
“Financial” blackouts Thursday and Friday spurred fear of the national grid’s collapse if Dominican Republic’s biggest plant, AES Andres, wer to come off line.
