Santo Domingo.- The government evaluates the agencies which could be part of new mergers, reduced payrolls and the creation of more functional entities, and “corrections” will be made on many of them, Presidency spokesman Roberto Rodriguez, said Sunday.

"A process of redesigning the State macrostructure has opened, in which mergers, restructurings and the creations new of institutions are possible in the future," he said.

On Friday the government abolished the State Reform Council (CONARE), the Justice Reform and Modernization Commission (CARMJ) and the Penal Procedural Reform Implementation Commission (Conaej), noting that they had fulfilled the mission for which they were created.

Rodriguez said during the transition period, the technical team today headed by Presidency Chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo worked at the state macrostructure so that people have the perception that "we’re conducting a proper management, so we have a reasonable and adequate state physiognomy for the perceived goal of seeking the wellbeing of citizens."

"What can happen is that in the future we will see mergers, institutions disappear and also the creation of new bodies."

He said the employees affected by the restructuring will be relocated to other agencies within 60 days.

Let's hope they'll do SOMETHING USEFUL, for a change. Give them a literacy test and a 60day probationary period to see if they qualify and know what they're doing. If not, can them!

"The high cost of the Dominican government payroll"

There are 609,525 people on the public payroll. The government is the leading employer, with hundreds of thousands of new employees added to the government payroll during the past eight years of the Fernandez administration. Taxpayers have to cover the RD$9.23 billion cost of the payroll, despite the fact that most of the employees provide minimal if any service to the country. Of this total, the central government employs 465,807, according to a report in Diario Libre.

"These jobs also come with generous benefits, such as per diems, trip expenses, mobile phones, credit cards, that the public administration salaries bill, recently vetoed by President Leonel Fernandez, chose to correct."
