Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina will unveil his fiscal proposal, next week which is expected to raise the tax burden from 13% to 15% and the taxes on high end income, Economy minister Temistocles Montas told Spanish reporters Thursday night.
Speaking in the National Palace with 21 reporters, the official said expressed his concern with Spain’s crisis and hopes it recovers quickly.
Montas said the tax reform will have to increase the tax burden -now at 13%- one of the region’s lowest. “That's the only way to balance the economy and have the resources needed to satisfy the social demands.”

No way can you fully provide a real educational opportunity for all Dominicans, and provide for all the other necessary services of a modern nation-state with such low tax burdens, 13%!! At a minimum, the Tax burden should be in the 20-25% zone with strong oversight.
I've said it many times before, taxation is the price we pay for Civilization. The lack of institutional strength and our weak State is due to its poverty and lack of professionalism. Yes, we do have massive corruption, but even that difficult impediment IS NOT sufficient to justify such low levels of taxation for national development purposes. And this is so in many Latin american nation-states, not just in the context of DR. DR just happens to be among the most egregious cases in LA.
