Santo Domingo.- For ex Soil and Water Deputy minister Victor Garcia the evaluation of the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) to extract ferronickel at Loma Miranda (entral) is the first major challenge for the new Environment minister Bautista Rojas and other senior officials, because it’s a metal mining project whose very nature as a site with extensive biodiversity and many variables makes it like no other the agency normally evaluates.

He said the Ministry’s duty is to environmentally approve or disapprove the Xstrata Falcondo project within reasonable time, and its main challenge is to form a multidisciplinary assessment team at the highest level.

The expert, quoted by hoy.com.do, said the project needs a broad evaluation which takes into account the technical knowledge of the foreign consultants who prepared the EIS.

The former official added that there’s a need to verify the processes submited in the study, since much of its information is from the use of computer technologies, "you have to be entirely sure of what’s being evaluated."

Maybe it is.....So what? The Earth has cooled and Warm before and it will cool and warm again.

A mine the will create jobs in a Dominican Republic that can sure use them will not destroy us and will cause no harm if done correctly.

The Environment Minister has a far bigger and more important challenge than the Loma Miranda Environmental Impact Study. It is insignificant compared to the massive degradation of many Dominican Rivers and beaches with sewerage and rubbish.

Maybe it is because mining companies are easier to tax, fine or extract kick-backs from, compared to general Dominican polluters?

The answer to This Falcondo Sh!t is NO, pack your stuff and get a f@ck OUT!! you already closed the Mine for almost a year and the world did not end so we got used to that.... Loma Miranda is right on the CENTER of the fresh Water supply of the whole cibao Central, just an insane person will agree with this type of sh!t. It is the same case of the cement factory on the Haitises region AGAIN!!
