Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Industries Association (AIRD) on Thursday stated its concern with the ban on heavy vehicle traffic along the capital’s seaside boulevard, El Malecon.

In a statement AIRD said the ordinance was approved "without having completed all stages of the preparatory process to implement the measure, which were agreed with the team of the National District Freight Transit Regulatory Plan.

AIRD vice president  Circe Almanzar urged the local authorities to suspend the ordinance, until the designation of the officials and technicians who’ll weigh the industry’s observations.

This happening is what I mentioned in a previous post regarding the implementation of this regulation, the truckers would not adhere to the ban. Maintain the status quo.

Trucks on El Malecon are an eyesore. But there must be an alternative viaduct built for them. Can't just unilaterally/impulsively ban them from it.!..... Que seto?

I also wrote that the detour at Maximo Gomex down to the turn off into Zona Colonial would create havoc on any alternative route as there is not one suitable .It was a crazy idea right from the start . I personally think the only solution is to ban all parking on that part of the Malecon so that traffic can flow safer ..There are plenty of places to build car parks off the road

That's ONE alternative, Ricardolito. It makes sense. But eventually, truckers will have to be routed away from our beautiful sea-side boulevard.
