Santo Domingo.– The Ministry of
Agriculture has set up a new food safety program aimed at restoring
meat exports in the near future.
During a recent meeting, Agriculture
Minister Luis Ramon Rodriguez, Director General of
Livestock Bolivar Toribio, and Animal Health Director Rafael Nunez agreed on a operational plan to reopen exports of beef, chicken, pork
and eggs to the United States and other Caribbean markets.
The program includes epidemiological inspection in order to certify farms to
ensure that the measures recommended by the authorities are better
implemented.
The Ministry of Agriculture is developing a health plan aimed at
declaring the Dominican Republic free of diseases such as avian
influenza and Newcastle's Disease in chickens, Toribio said.

It's terrible to raise animals in such closed confinements, especially pigs. They should be let loose in the fields to root, weed, and fertilize it.
Not only will they grow big, happy, and disease-free, but they'll taste better too!
Rather than try to control it (nature), with artificial hormones, antibiotics, and all kinds of crap for killing weeds and insects, we humans, (aka, the imbeciles of this site), should live in concert with nature...in a symbiotic relationship where nothing's wasted and everything's used in a closed natural loop...

There was also a time when starvation was an ever present danger and the average life expectancy was in the mid 30's
