American Eagle will take up some of the slack. File.
Santo Domingo.- American Airlines on Monday called extremely difficult, its decision to cancel its direct flights Santo Domingo and Santiago-New York as of April 2.
In a statement to listin.com.do from Las Americas Airport, American Airlines PR manager Dori Robau Alvarez said the last flight slated for the two destinations have been canceled after April 1, 2013.
She said American Airlines, which has provided continuous service in Dominican Republic for over 37 years, will continue its commitment to local customers through its hub in Miami, with four daily flights to Santo Domingo, three to Punta Cana, one to Santiago, one to Puerto Plata and seasonal service to La Romana.
Robau said its subsidiary American Eagle will offer provide direct service between Miami and La Romana. “It was a difficult decision for us to cancel our direct flights between the Dominican Republic and the U.S. territory after more than 37 years operating in the country."

Hasta luego AA ,,we can still go direct with United and Jet Blue from the capital so who wants to transit in that disgusting airport at Miami ..Not a great loss but seems strange when jetblue can have their direct flights full most times and can still have full planes to la Romana from New York two times a week

Can't figure that one out at all. The JFK-SDQ route was one of the most profitable income wise, of the many AA routes. Has AA given any explanations?

They lost my bags not once, not twice, not three times, but four times! Not even a free coffee in compensation either.
Hope they go under.

After being on MANY AA planes that the passengers were taken off of, at the gate, or while taxiing, because of mechanical problems, I quit flying with them. I even gave up my mileage for 2 free RD flights. PELIGROSO!

I suggest this action is a symptom of the prepositioning of the playing pieces in advance of an alleged merger of US Airways and AA. Both airlines have coverage that overlap similar routes. They are putting their ducks in order to make an orderly transition, should it happen.

Just hope DT can find a replacement for AA as a sponsor!

I saw this cumming a few years back. Anyway with the good service Jetblue is providing, we don't need AA anymore. I wish them the best though, they gave us good service in the past.

Good observation, that is where the dots come together. Could also be wishful thinking, I may say?,
just in case the merger is not approved, which seems unlikely,

My God. I see what some people here write about when they complaint about this blog. Example:
mannyberrios: Is that PR, Santo Domingo? No... is PR as in Public Relations "Las Americas Airport, American Airlines PR manager Dori Robau Alvarez.. Las Americas Airport IS in Santo Domingo.
rokete: "I saw this cumming a few years back" - My God- Really? you saw it "cumming" , OMG! Is incredible how someone who can't spell wants us to believe they are sooooooo smart they can predict business decisions. Wow!! For your and others information the word "cumming" is used to describe an orgasm. The correct word is "coming" ..Ohhh Wait! Maybe I 'm wrong, maybe this rokete person had an orgasm and had some kind of religious "vision". Wow! Lotto numbers please next time you have sex.

We need more airlines to get into the non-stop flights from Miami to Puerto Plata. Is just too expensive. American seems to have some monopoly in this area. $603.00 for the flight on Dic 19.

Thank you for the observation, its a mistake.
However, It was a typing error, not the end of the world.
I was probably excited at that moment.
You are too smart for my Master's Degree and kindergarten education.
On the other hand, it is not fortune telling concerning AA, it is called business acumen.
