Oh,wow! What now? Do we continue to pay an ever-increasing price for gas, or take the "useless" Metro, instead??
Let's see: $6.00 dollars for a gallon, or $0.50 cents for a subway ride?..hmmmm... decisions, desicions!

What would Joseanus do?

There is a youtube video were a dominican is filling up at a gas station in venezuela and only cost him less than a dollar to do so.

Leonels daughter current boyfriends father is in the oil business and Leo's presidential performance indicates leos demeanor as a person who takes advantage of a situation regardless of the outcome. I bet leo holds interest in the refinery and some of that tax goes to him...., I have a hunch.

Gasoline prices will never go down. They may fluctuate a bit, but never what it was just a year ago.
We will see a steady rise until very few can afford it anymore, even the upper middle class!

What then? We'll either have to produce our own Biodiesel, or we'll have to take the Metro and/or the future passenger/freight train to Santiago and beyond. The higher fuel prices, the more riders we'll see using the Metro.

That's a virtual certainty, and if you can't see it coming, label yourself a blind dimwit, a la Joseanus.!

Right NOW Ron!!!! Not Five years from now....Please stop it and at 50 cents a pop, when will it be paid for ....50yrs from now? The current rate charged is like buying a house and getting a negative amortization for the first five years then you have to make it up when it matures.

Let me just throw this in. Think about it, for a spell.: ....
Did you know that our little DR spends ..get this.: 4.5 Billion, with a "B", dollars each and every year buying oil to power our chatarras and SUV's?

If we can reduce that to a minimum, we can SAVE Billions of dollars that can easily go for social and educational projects!-- stuff you've been clamoring for, for years!--..I wish you had the BRAIN to conceive/fathom/digest what a stupendous sum of money this is, which today we throw away, not to ever be seen again!

A gallon of gas NOT used, is money that can be spent on other, more worthwhile projects, to benefit US, not freaking Chavez!... Do you understand? Or am I wasting my time with first-class nitwits!!?

Also, please tell me about what your take is with Methane for powering cars and stoves isn't feasible, and why wind turbines, solar, simply won't cut it as good technology for generating electricity.

I'd like to see $10 bucks a gallon, minimum, worldwide, and keep people from using huge personal vehicles to "run to the store", "pick up the kids", "take a joy ride".
The technology is here to provide much cheaper transportation, but batted down by the multinational oil mafias.
I'm tired of sending our kids to war, in the name of patriotism, terrorism and waving the flag, for merciless corporations to make us all their petro-slaves.
Imagine the DR, or the world, with 40% fewer personal cars on the road. The walk would do us good, lower obesity and healthcare costs, emergency and long-term care, the list goes on.
What would Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Venezuela, the US and others do with less addiction to petro dollars.?
It would be a different paradigm, globally.
There would be fewer wars.
But wars make the world go 'round and 'round don't they.

Very insightful, Slick. It won't be long before retail price for a gallon hits the $10 range in DR.
I too, look forward to such an event, but for other reasons that are just as important...To wit:
This will force most oil addicts to seek help in the form of alternative fuels.

The US and other, more advanced nations, will need to put a lot of time into R&D to come up with ways to produce cheap and plentiful alternatives, (biofuels). This move away from fossils will help our planet lessen the tremendous amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, which will stem global heating, which can potentially kill us all.

It will also moderate the world's economy by preventing huge numbers of dollars from accumulating in the hands of the few OPEC nations. The have-nots can retain their capital to be put into self-benefiting projects.

The end of oil will be a very liberating event, indeed.! Other than religion, nothing has been more detrimental to our world's environment and it's people.

Non Rectal Facts!

History about fossil fuel

Fossil fuels are thought of as cornerstones of our modern age. They generate our electricity, heat our homes, fuel our cars, even form plastics from which many of our modern conveniences are made. Despite this, fossil fuels have played a key role for hundreds of years of our history, driving our transition from a primitive and pre-industrial society to one capable of both encircling this world and reaching beyond.Fossil fuel history begins nearly three centuries ago. At that time, people relied less on machines, instead using manual labor performed by humans or animals. Wood and animal fats were common fuels, used primarily for cooking and heating.Fossil fuel use began to rise in the late 18th century. The introduction of the steam engine gave rise to faster shipping both by sea and by the quickly-expanding railroad network, and our use of manual labor began to be replaced by coal-driven engines.

In addition to increased shipping, the steam engine began to mechanize industries once driven by manual labor. The textile industry, for instance, received a major boost from the introduction of the steam engine, as coal-driven machines could perform tasks much more safely and efficiently than had previously been done by hand.Steam technology was rapidly advancing, and estimates place the steam engine of 1900 as being 30 times as powerful as that of 1800. Carriages were being replaced by steam-powered cars on the streets of London. It was at this time that the use of oil began to steadily increase.Oil and natural gas could be transported via pipes, a factor which contributed to its sudden appearance. Early versions of oil-driven combustion engines were also being produced, and while the use of coal would continue, oil and natural gas would soon become the new shining stars of the fossil fuel landscape. This trend would continue for many decades to come.

Slowly, our reliance on animals and manual labor would be replaced, first by combustion engines, then by engines in combination with electricity. Our dependence upon fossil fuels continued to grow until they came to form the bedrock of our very way of life. Not only are they used as fuels, but petroleum products are now essential in many manufacturing processes, and serve numerous functions far beyond those to which they were put a hundred years ago.It was only in recent years that the environmental effect of burning fossil fuels became first an issue of academic debate and, ultimately, one worthy of concern and requiring action. As our use of fossil fuels has increased, so has its environmental impact. Similarly, the non-renewable nature of fossil fuels has sparked concerns as to how the world will react when laws of supply and demand render these essential components of modern life more scarce.

From: United States, Fighting the Dictatorship of the Narco PLD Mafia; Guillermo Moreno President 2016

Such issues are prompting another shift similar to the one away from manual labor, a shift to alternative sources of clean and renewable energy. Despite these concerns, there are many obstacles preventing such a change, and our reliance on fossil fuels will continue in some form for many years to come.

We, in DR, can keep relying on expensive imported energy, or start now to convert waste into renewable energy sources.

Oil, are we really running out or is this some kind of scam designed to create artificial scarcity in order to manipulate prices?Oil is plentiful! Don’t let anyone try to convince you the world’s supply is dwindling to nothing. The truth of the matter, there is more oil than we will use in our lifetime.Canada…Canada alone sits on an estimated 1.7 trillion barrels of crude in the Alberta Tar Sands. This crude bitumen, also known as “heavy crude” is processed using hydro-processing. This is a pre-process before this bitumen can be sent to the refineries.National Energy Board of Canada estimated the operating cost of a new mining operation in the Athabasca oil sands to be C$9 to C$14 per barrel.Conventional oil wells can range from less than one dollar per barrel in Iraq and Saudi Arabia to over six in the United States and Canada’s conventional oil reserves. So is it cost prohibitive to to process the bitumen? I don’t think so!

Keep in mind the cost of oil as of this writing is 72-dollars per barrel. In my recent visit to Alberta, I got to speak with some locals about the tar sand operation. They were all expressing their concerns about the Canadian Government selling off too much property to the Chinese.Saudia Arabia…Oil was discovered in Saudi Arabia by U.S. geologists in the 1930's.As World War II approached, there was little oil production or shipping after the first significant oil discovery made in 1938 at Dammam. In 1943, Roosevelt and his administration came to a realization, oil was going to be very important in the future.A relationship started to develop. In order to provide military and economic aid to Saudi Arabia, Roosevelt declared the defense of Saudi Arabia was vital to the defense of the United States. To this day an agreement has been in place which all Saudi oil is sold in U.S. dollars in exchange for protection. I bet you didn’t know this!

Saudia Arabia claims they have 200-billion barrels of crude oil. They have been claiming this for years. The word on the street, if you have less than 200-billion barrels of crude, you can’t be in the OPEC cartel. This has yet to be confirmed.Russia…Russia sits on a tremendous supply of oil. Claims of over 80-billion barrels of crude in proven reservers. There is plenty more undiscovered.Venezuela…Experts believe Venezuela holds 90% of the world’s super-heavy tar oil reserves, they are believed to be sitting on an estimated total of 1.36 trillion barrels. There goes Hugo and Citgo!Click on the link for a chart of Crude Oil Imports from the top 15-countries. This should give you an idea of how much oil is moving out there! This doesn’t even take into account all of the un-discoverd oil out there.Touring the Gulf…In my recent visit to New Orleans, I was amazed at all of the giant oil tankers just waiting to off load oil and can’t because the storage tanks are full.

So are we being lied too? You bet your gas guzzling SUV!Peak oil…Peak oil is a scam to create artificial scarcity and drive prices up. Meanwhile, alternative fuel technologies, which have been around for decades, have been intentionally suppressed.Memos from Mobil, Chevron and Texaco have been obtained by The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights. These memos outline a deliberate agenda to gouge prices and create artificial scarcity by limiting capacities of and outright closing oil refineries. This was a nationwide lobbying effort led by the American Petroleum Institute to encourage refineries to do this.Oil spike…Oil’s peak price was on July 11th 2008 at 147.29. This we can thank our trusty wall street firm, Goldman Sachs. They claimed oil was going to 100 then 150 then 200. People believed them and were buying the hype while prices were soaring Goldman began to take short positions and then prices started to collapse.

Now after the financial debacle, Goldman’s credibility is shot! The part about Goldman which still infuriates me, when they were going to vote to approve the TARP funds on Monday, Goldman had a special meeting over the weekend with the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve granted commercial bank status to Goldman so Goldman could access the TARP funds. Amazing! Talk about criminal! We’ll leave this story for another day.The oil companies figured out a long time ago, if you drill in hostile areas, the political unrest is beneficial to create fear of supply interruption and thus price spikes! This has become a very profitable strategy! Not to mention the refinery game. Anything to create fear of supply interruption!

So don’t buy the hype of oil drying up! There is plenty for your SUV and boat!
