Medina should take advantage of this and ask for a few hundred teachers from Cuba. We'll give them back, we promise ;-)

For those teachers assigned to SD proper, perhaps after they ride out our useless Metro to the useless malls, bearing useless Pesos earned by their very important jobs in our failed nation's schools, they may think twice about returning, and seek asylum in our banana republic to continue performing an essential part in advancing the cause for 100% literacy. ..Hope so!
We need closer ties with Cuba. There's plenty to gain and benefit from establishing cultural, technical, exchanges and commerce. We can learn valuable lessons from each other's mistakes in governance/political systems.

Joseanus, if ever in SD, you have the option to ride on your own gas guzzling SUV, or take a Concho wherever you need to go... I'll just take the Metro, thank you very much.
Malls are far from boring. Children and adults go there to play, shop and eat. I intend to do just that. I'll be sitting al fresco, having my presidente and checking out the babes, as they walk by. It doesn't get any better!.. So don't knock it 'till you've tried it, fella.

The USELESS METRO only covers a few kilometers so your range in the glorious capital is limited.
My God where did families go to play and eat before there were these wonders of the world called MALLS!

You're right!..That's why we're building lines 3,4,5, and 6.!
"My God where did families go to play and eat before there were these wonders of the world called MALLS!"
In my childhood, my father would take us to our finca, or give us $0.10 cents each, (on Sundays), to go to the cine and see the coming attractions, a cartoon, the latest episode of Commando Cody, and the movie. That was fun!
Television was in its infancy and there was only one channel, Radio Television Dominicana, (channel 4). I remember watching a telecast of the Yankees playing in the world series, I think against the St Louis Cardinals, but I may be wrong.
Otherwise, I'd play ball with the buds using a baseball made of cloth wrapped with rubber bands cut out from inner tubes, and paper bags stuffed with rags, for mitts.
That was it but was a great time in my life... Malls, we didn't have.

So you see there was life before MALLS and of better quality from what you fondly describe!
PS
As of right now the METRO will be just 1 and 1/2 lines.

Right again, Josean! Except kids can't play in the streets anymore, as we did. There are very few public venues left in SD that can provide playgrounds and safe places to exercise mind and body.
Possibly because of this, today's kids spend way too much time sitting in front of TVs and playing video games. That, to a greater degree, is why there's an epidemic of obesity and the numbing of the mind.
This is another extremely important reason why schools must be reformed into second homes, with extended school hours. Where the opportunity to play and study is there for the taking.
We should welcome the Cubans and pay them a fair salary. They may just help save our next generation!!
