Santo Domingo.-  Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo on Sunday urged the people to watch over with a keen eye the work to repave and repair roads nationwide and in Greater Santo Domingo.

He said the vigilance is crucial so that those contractors to do quality work that will last for years, and improve traffic across the country.

He said Public Works continues to sign agreements with local and provincial officials, and carry out the mission of “improving the lives of citizens, and both the government and municipalities must work together to achieve that goal."

"The current situation requires a strong will for the nation to move forward," said Castillo, after signing two agreements with the governors of Maria Trinidad Sanchez and Samana provinces.

They should give out a phone number or an email address so we can report problems we notice with these projects.

I would like to know how Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo expects unqualified and uneducated members of the public to know whether work being carried out is "quality" work or not.

His department should be responsible for overseeing these works using qualified and experienced technicians who can determine if the correct standards are being adhered to.

But then maybe he hasn't got any qualified staff either so it's anyone's guess if the work is up to scratch or not!

What the government are saying is that the contractors that they hire to do the job are corrupt companies run by uneducated morons with no moral standard, hence keep a sharp lookout.

Does the government have a national standard how the paving and repairs are supposed to be effectuated, and for which these companies have to fulfill.

If not this is a system failure, plus greed and corruption.

Danilo, seconded by Slick - secure phone number and email address for reporting problems and sending photos of what we notice with these projects. Despite comments of unqualified and en-educated general public - the other side of that is some do have knowledge and even the unqualified can report suspicious movements of contractors and/or material.. His department is responsible for overseeing these works using qualified and experienced technicians but we all know there are temptations where oversight is lax or lacking.
Just having the public as potential watch dogs would help the honest stay that way. A good plan if really implemented. Damn near everyone has a camera in their cell phone, take a picture and lets the experts decide. Let’s make these things work for us. This is now not 15 or 20 years ago.

i have a friend who helped built several highways in the USA, and in Puerto Rico. at one point in the middle 2000s, a work crew was trying to fix a short stretch of road between the POP zona franca and cofresi. my buddy observed the work being done, and told the big wig construction overseer that if they continued doing it the way they were, the best they could expect it to last was 6 months. Mr Sabelotodo head cook got insulted by the guy offering to suggest a better way, since he knew everything, and basically told my buddy to bugger off. well, the repairs lasted 4 months, and the road was basically unusable after that. i was told later that that is the way things work in the DR. screw it up, make sure it has to be done over, and get paid again. i hope Danilo will put a performance clause in these contracts. you build it badly, and you repair it, at your expense.

Adrian: Dr Dread:

You see why we need "Contract Compliance Department" as I had posted prior, as part of the

Metro on going repair works? You are right it should fall under a diferent department by itself,

like check and balance on every thing they do nationwide, with an inspector on sight on daily basis.

It can't be from the same Public Works since they are the biggest crooks when it comes to giving

the public a lesser grade product ,so the construction engineer can cut corners and save

material for his own house. If it needs be contract Haitians master builders, since they are the

experts in construction in DR. I don't mean a guy sitting behind a computer, white collar worker but

a blue collar worker, who is willing to spend all 5 days in the field 40 hrs and reports to his boss

on the progress as well as the quality being used.

That didn't happened in "Trujillo's days"You know why because all the infrastructure in the country

had to be approved and recieved by him? Otherwise you find yourself in San Felipe prision if you

tried to screw him out of a shitty work .That is why he had paid inpector to do what am propposing.

So public works department is telling citizens to watch the work being done in public roads.
Does he expect to find an road construction expert willing to come by everyday to supervise the work for free.

In most normal countries (public department) there is a department called quality control or quality inspector who can do the job. So why not fire some botellas and hire a quality inspector in road construction, oh wait they hire a company they cant even trust so now the work must be checked by people who have no clue(public) else hell would break loose Lol.

Here is a novel idea. Fire Mr. Gonzalo and hire public work minister who knows what he is doing!

Btw guys, I didn't want to say anything until I finished it but I can't contain myself. I'm working on a site for this exact purpose, to report all problems we observe in our country. It's taking a while but it's coming along well. It will be at vigilador.com. It uses google maps so you can select a location or an area to report on. I'm hoping that if the government doesn't pay attention to it at least the media outlets will.

My suggestion is that your site as it reports the perceived wrongdoing to the do nothing government simultaneously reports it to the media; especially Nuria, Alicia, acento.com, El Gobierno de
La Mañana and other media outlets.

That is exactly what i said "Contract Compliance Department" It involves Quality Control+ Quality inspectors. Except the inspectors are there on the daily basis from start to end of the day in the field. The reason I had mentioned Haitians costruction Craftmen to Dominicans is that the Haitians are workers compared to Dominicans who sit behind a computer and try to solve problems while seating on their hinies.

Danilo:
That is a good idea, but by the time it takes to present the progress of a project to report and actions to be taken, the project is already completed or patched up as it was in the Colonial Zone recently because they knew dignitaries with the president would be there.Besides inspectors
could be every where a project is to take place.and report via cellular to the central office of desbursment to stop payments untill the upgraded situation has been corrected and satisfy the inspectors.

The government spends RD$1.04 Billion pesos, on Haitian illegals health care.

How many Dominicans are in need of that money?

How many Dominican would benefit if that money is spent on education?

How many Dominicans would benefit if that money is spent on their health care??

How many Dominicans would put food on their tables ??

How many bridges would be build in DR??

How many roads paved??

How many schools build??

How many houses build??

How many hospitals ??

How many Kilo Watt of energy produced??

How many dams build??

How many canals for irrigation??

How many docks??

These are the kind of thing some people don't want to understand.

The Dominican Republic is a very poor country.

We cannot have the luxury of spending that kind of money on the health care of illegal Haitians, while our own people are in need of those funds.

EXPEL THOSE ILLEGALS HAITIANS FROM QUISQUEYA !!!!!

VIVA TRUJILLO MOLINA !!!!!
