Santo Domingo.- The more than 340 contractors who won the Government tender on November 30 to build and renovate schools across the country, yesterday received checks for a 20 percent advance the cost of the work.
President Danilo Medina headed activity in the National Palace, attended by several cabinet officials.
Medina said although 372 contractors had won the bidding, only 341 were able to receive the funds, because of the 31 remaining, 28 faced challenges and three were unable to complete the requirements.
He said the Government is determined to act with responsibility in the allocation of these funds, whose first stage totals more than RD$2.8 billion.
He said the checks should’ve been disbursed in December, but were retained to prevent the temptation of using the money for Christmas activities.
Warning
Medina however warned the contractors not to squander the funds or waste the opportunity because the government will supervise the works strictly. "He who fails to comply for any reason, had better not allege that they lost their right to perform a work."

anyone is free to say what they will, but i like this guy more every day. he may not be 100% perfect, but he darn well is doing his very best. in days gone by, people like Leonel would have given the work to 10 of his buddies. this guy is spreading things around, in a fair manner. he is giving people a chance. let us all give this man moral support. he is doing things which have never been done before. Danilo, you have at least two fans from Jamaica. my buddy, and i.

"Pedos" -Methinks is the correct term. But RobertJose is the one who flunked the Spanish language test.
Dready: Is anyone 100% perfect? Is that the standard for political leadership?
At least you are beginning to see the light, I will help you further by illuminating it mightily.
Danilo, mark my words, will at the end of his 4 years in office be considered a very good President-even by some folks here who have a very hard time seeing ANYTHING positive
Can't hang, have more important things on the menu today.
Stay positive Dready, who knows, it just MIGHT spread to others on DT. Yes, those characters.
Hasta luego!

the last thing you want to do in life is to kick a woman who loves you in the ass. the revenge will be bitter. this is what you are looking at. Danilo is taking revenge on the population, by showing the people how wrong they were to have passed him over for that kleptomaniac loser that destroyed the country.

Atabey, don't forget you are dealing with a person that his family left the Republic from the compos of San Jose de la's Matas from the 70's and have been told stories of the way it was back then.
Pedos is the proper way of saying it but, "Peo " is the Dominican way....

i can just see Atabey waiting for four years to pass, to tell us how he was the first to predict that Danilo was going to be a good President. then he will copy and paste 39 pages of drivel, which he will make comments on (no longer than 5 words, each).Atabey, many of us, myself included , have already made that prediction. sorry.

FOOD X THOUGHTS:

I am sure that you share some of the fundamental, peculiar characteristics, which identify this unique group of idiots. Some of these include:
1. Low income
2. Functional illeterate (cannot write two complete sentences)
3. Wear purple underwear

How about reverting to the topic at hand?
Speaking of which; are any provisions or safeguards to guarantee that these companies that have been awarded the contract will follow existing laws stipulating that 85% of the workforce be Dominican born (legally) being implemented? Are the workers being documented? Or is this latest stimulus shot to the economy just another call to Haiti to send in another 10,000 workers so the company owners can pay them didly and pocket the difference?
We must stop acquiesing to international and local NGO's by accepting and providing material comfort to violators of our immigration laws. This government project could help the Dominican construction worker get back to work. Here's hoping Danilo doesn't succumb to the bottom line as Leo did when constructing the Metro with mostly illegal Haitian labor instead of allowing fellow Dominicans to support their families.

great way to start educating the children in better conditions and environment. They had better have checks and balances to insure QUALIY workmanship is preformed not hide defects behind a coat of stucco and paint. Some forget they do have earthquakes and hurricanes meaning the buildings have to be safe for the children and residents
