Santo Domingo.- The political parties will receive RD$805 million of taxpayer money during 2013, with a first disbursement of RD$67 million starting today, most of that to the opposition PRD, the ruling PLD and the pro-government PRSC.

The Electoral Law allocates 0.25% of tax the revenue to the political parties in non-election years, such as 2013, and 0.5 percent in election years.

The parties were recognized in the previous election if they received at least five percent of the votes and get 80 percent of the funds, while the other 20 percent is split among the political organizations which obtained less than that amount, but maintained their recognition.

The big 3

In 2013 the PRD, the PLD and the PRSC will receive RD$215 million each in monthly installments.

Starting today and every month until December, the Central Electoral Board will disburse RD$18 million each to those three parties, whereas the 23 minority organizations will get RD$161million, or around RD$13 million per month in all.

The lesgislator thought if The State supplay an important part of the party financial necesity, They don`t need to procure resources from inappropiate sources. Anyway it seem that does not prevent them from fallen into temptation.

dreadlocks, are you surprised?.

Why do you think the Dominican education system has been in the crapper for so many years?.

If anything, the Dominican Government doesn't want the Dominican people to be school-educated.

An educated person will ask their Government/politicians questions and hold them accountable for what's happening to the country.

An uneducated person will not be heard.

jasfalon,

This one is for you and ALL those that are looking for a way out of the Failed Narco State which Steals and Destroys our irreplaceable “Protected” PUBLIC LANDS!

"Guillermo Moreno and Country Alliance "

Distinguished Mr. Guillermo Moreno:

Although I have not had the pleasure of knowing you personally, I turn to you and together with you, to the organization Country Alliance, to congratulate them on the initiative of presenting a complaint to the Dominican justice system the criminal and delinquent former President for money laundering and other violations of the criminal code, Leonel Fernández and the body of crime which he chairs, the Fundación Global para Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), which was founded and is irregularly maintained with public funds.

I am proud and satisfied to part of the Dominican society which has protested against assaults and attacks from the Government and who fells alarmed and injured with the harmful political and administrative practices that has characterized the exercise of power in the Dominican Republic and which being so common and prolonged, and because of accommodation and convenience, are promoted as immutable.

You can’t imagine how much it pleases that an organization has emerged that formally, and before the Dominican Justice (whatever the level of performance of such entity), insists on defending the country, by claiming and exercising some rights and empowering themselves as an institution composed of citizens with political awareness and social activism.

I also thank you for the courage, determination and fortitude with which you have faced the persecution, slander and harassment of a corrupted Government, that uses the resources and power of its public functions to suppress those whom they should be protecting.

Not everyone feels affected and hurt by the machinations programmed by former President Fernandez and the leaders of the Dominican Liberation Party, including the current President of the Republic, Danilo Medina, who has been constructor, manager, accomplice, partner and beneficiary, of unconstitutional actions, of criminal conspiracies and crimes executed by the authorities of the Government with impunity.

However, many of us know that the politicians who have ruled us and economic sectors that they represent, have boycotted the emergence and the consolidation of the rule of law, the development and strengthening of democratic institutions; the implementation of inclusive economic and fair social policies fair, transparent public administration, efficiently regulated that censures corruption and recovers lost public goods.

The formal filing of charges against Leonel Fernández, not only has a vindictive content for those who aspire to the elucidation of the handling of FUNGLODE, but that it also constitutes a foot hold for those who have been shocked with the fiscal hole of more than 200 billion, with the extreme abuse, looting, embezzlement, plunder and unconstitutionality and who are demanding the corresponding sanctions, reparations and restitutions.

Thank you also for the first, pertinent and justified complaint presented by you that the Attorney General, Francisco Domínguez Brito, dismissed without even studying it, disrespecting you and putting himself in evidence.

There are those who expect to bury this whole thing and repeat the same actions in 2016 and in 2020 and in 2024 in the 2028 and in 2032, and thus for all eternity. There are those who trust in running a campaign like theyt did in 2012.

However, Mr. Moreno and Country Alliance, your initiative provides an excellent example of political, civic and social action for people who feel disgruntled with the corruption, impunity and patronage with which the ruling party maintains on the public payroll all his supporters and uses that payroll to recruit followers and keep others subjugated.

Also for those who have felt tricked with the contract that Leonel Fernández signed with Barrick Gold and the Dominican Congress approved and what he did with the Sun Land and what they plan to do with Loma Miranda.

And for those who feel wronged and scorned and abused by the approval of President Danilo Medina of the theft of Bahía de Las Águilas and feel very poorly represented with this Executive who ratifies and supports illegality and repeats what has always been done wrong and does not correct even the most egregious errors.

I hope that you and Country Alliance will help to receive, interpret and channel, as you have been doing, concerns, demands and burdens that affect those who wish that the Dominican Republic has an efficient administration, that it eliminates rampant corruption and that fair and democratic, social and economic policies are developed.

Tiny Tim, you have hit the nail squarely on the head. educated people are a nuisance. they are going to want to know why there are 24 hour electricity blackouts. they are going to question kids using building blocks for school desks, while the education minister lives in a mansion. they are going to ask how it is that some guy who lived in the barrio 10 years ago got into politics, and is now living in a mansion in Arroyo Hondo, and driving an AMG BENZ.. those are not questions politicians like to hear.

Dr. Dread,

But they must must always remember what one of the Greatest Humanitarian Trovadors, Nesta Robert Marley, said..............“Them belly full, but we hungry; A hungry mob is a angry mob!”

And the hunger for education can become as volatile as the hunger for food!

A friend of mine in Santa Domingo said that as soon as anyone is elected to office, they get a big stipend for a vehicle ( luxury SUV), private school and health insurance for kids, and other benefits directly from taxpayer money. Is this correct? I lived right down the street, Independencia, from the Purple House with pictures of the people's socialist historical leaders like Che Guevara and saw the giant penis replacement SUV's parked all around it on the sidewalk and all over the streets whenever they had some sort of meeting there. Is this where that money goes? Are taxpayers buying these penis replacements for jerks instead of getting the 4 percent for education?

Danilo says:
"We could have used that money to buy tablets for our school children with encyclopedias, novels, tools and other reference material built in--and of course with NO internet."

Recently, I watched a report on "60 Minutes", about providing cheaper, ( less than $50.00, US) computers, to poor school children in third-world nations.
These governments were too blind/corrupt to want to spend money on this program. But some wealthy person named Negroponte, decided to give them to rural schools anyway.
They had no electricity nor Internet link. But the equipment was set up, and computer batteries could be recharged by hand-cranking a dynamo. The program was a success, until the chip maker "Intel" stepped in and raised prices on their chips.
It's not just government apathy , but also greed, from multinationals who couldn't care less but the bottom line! ...Truly a tragedy of great proportions!

DaveB, politics is just a direct link to the nation's coffers. nothing more, nothing less. consider this fact; for 365 days of the year, during the last administration, the VIP lounge at the Las Americas airport catered to between 45 and 50 Dominican politicians and diplomats. they were just visiting the world at taxpayer expense. also, remember that before Leonel got into politics, he drove an old Volkswagen beetle that bystanders helped him to push-start, because he could no afford a starter motor. politics is an ATM for politicians.

----------dreadlocks, you are correct, educated people are a nuisance to politicians.

They know an educated and well-read person will see through their bull and call them out on it.

They know an uneducated person is easier to impress.

To those thieves, why educate those that can give them a headache while hurting their pockets.

This is the reason you see so many people into politics.

This is why Hipolito ans Vargas people where throwing chairs, and bullets at each other.

Each group wanted to get their hands at that bundle of money.

This is outrageous !!!!
