BARAHONA, Dominican Republic. – The head of the Dams and Canals Agency (INDRHI) affirmed Wednesday that the dam at Monte Grande, now under construction, will be finished during president Danilo Medina’s Administration.

Olgo Fernandez said the government allocated US$7.5 million in this year’s budget for the dam, which will cost US$354 million.

Fernandez, in a meeting with officials from Barahona and Baoruco and other southern provinces, said the dam will benefit the region with irrigation of more than 40,000 hectares.

He said a US$270.0 million loan is pending for the hydraulic complex which includes an aqueduct, to supply the area for the next 30 years.

And that's THE ONLY criteria one need take into account given the lack of alternatives in our country. In the land of the blind, the one Eyed Party is King.

This dam will generate some electricity, 7.83 MW--as well as other benefits:
- Potable water
- Irrigation
- Flood control
- Saving electricity (30 water pumps will not be needed)
- Generate tourism (It actually looks pretty)

Read more about it:

At a cost of US$354 millions .I think more electricity could be generated than a megger 7.83MWHr.

By throwing in more turbines w/o affecting the rest of the project infrastructure and adding more

alternators at the end of the turbines, thereby taking advantage of the already build dam pressure.

Also building the spill holes on the side of the dam instead of above to let water out in case of

overflow, thereby protecting the dam from damage when rain floods the upper section of the river

basin.

By so doing they don't have to worry about openning the entire dycke as it was done in Santiago

Province by some stupid employee therby killing lots of people 3 years ago.
