FREEPORT, Bahamas.-  The President of the Round Table of Commonwealth Nations in the Dominican Republic on Friday said the Dominican Republic is a legally safe and attractive destination for foreign investment.

Fernando Gonzalez Nicolas, who took part in the Business and Investment Forum of Commonwealth Nations in the Bahamas, affirmed that his country offers the incentives, opportunities and security which make it attractive for foreign investment and businesses.

He stressed that the Dominican government, headed by president Danilo Medina is known for protecting foreign investment and respecting the legal framework.

The business leader said Commonwealth countries are the largest bloc of foreign investors which the Dominican Republic counts on, “and are successful in their activities in our country. “Mining is becoming one of the Dominican economy’s main pillars, expected to be the main export in the near future and is poised to figure on mining’s world map for the first time.”

Business and investor delegations from 27 different countries attended the Forum

In addition to González Nicolas, Dominican Industry and Commerce minister José del Castillo and Dominican Republic Export and Investment Center (CEI-RD) director Jean Alain Rodriguez  attended the event, among others.

The London-based Commonwealth Business Council, CBC and the Bahamas Government hosted the event.

The CBC is an umbrella organization of major companies based in the Commonwealth’s 54 countries, among them leaders in mining, oil, natural gas, banking, power plants, tourism and industry.

The Round Table of Commonwealth Countries in the Dominican Republic is an initiative to promote bilateral relations between the Dominican Republic and the 54 countries that make up the world conglomerate.

The Roundtable includes the binational chambers of commerce from Britain, Canada, India and Trinidad & Tobago, which are based in the country.

Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie, Castillo and Rodriguez addressed the Forum, among others.

Anyone who think the DR has good investment opportunities is a fool.Expect to spend all your profits if you have any on bribes. If you own anything of value expect those with political ties to be jealous and try to take it from you. The only investors are looking to launder money or conduct drug business.Anyone with a brain would look someplace else.

And what would the Wizard of Oz say about Oz?

Would you expect The President of the Round Table of Commonwealth Nations in the Dominican Republic, a Dominican, to say anything other than what a wonderful place this is?

Hrere is a completely unrelated question:

Why on my twitter home page am I receiving messages from @PresidenciRD? I did not sign up to follow this site. In fact when I go to the home site I am offered the opportunity to follow it. Does the government somehow tap in to every twitter account located in the DR and send them tweets? Also, does anyone know how I can unsubscribe to something I don't subscribe to?

No...Somebody you do follow is re-tweeting them

Just go to @PresidenciRD twitter page. Click on the little silhouette icon then click on "Block@PresidenciRD" and voila.

I wonder what was the guage of judgement the Round Table of Commonwealth Nations used to arrive to its conclusion to declare the DR is safe and attractive for investment.

As far as I am concerned, never had much confidence in these so called international summit type get togethers under the umbrella of some organizational name that supposedly emanates power and influence. I am suspicious of the makeup of the delegates to these forums, could some be appointed to the positions even though they may have no accreditation in any the fields of the organizational umbrella ? These get togethers are more of a social and networking event than a work in process mission. Yet, to give some aura of self importance they always come out with a press release to give a positive spin to their labors.

I like it, Dready, is it yours?
I've been using "wank-fest" to describe these tax-payer funded rorts, but its politically incorrect.
Anyway, interesting to see this Anglo-phobic, failed, Spanish colony, gate-crashing another British Commonwealth party. Isn't the Bahamas a tax-haven for Commonwealth crooks?

Miguel tejada, vladimir guerrero, aramis ramirez and david ortiz?.. they're in baseball, which sadly and apparently is the only field worth mentioning dominicans in. Isn't that pitiful? Can't come up with a stellar performer in say, science, engineering, or the arts? Of course you can't because there aren't any in those areas. Again, pitiful.

Why don't you push yourself and other dominicans in getting an education and jobs instead of encouraging them to hit a ball with a stick. It's obvious that you can't compete, don't have the smarts, and are bereft of fundamentals. When you've graduated from an Ivy League school with a 3.60 GPA, then talk to me. Otherwise, you're just blowing wind in my ear.

gzzzz with 54 countries showing up for this events , this means they have some interest in something that Dominican republic has to offer? what is it then more land? export , inport, drug points , or is it more of our coal mining areas ??? At this rate the Dominican republic will have no more resources to offer , because all the forum countries have taken all of it.

I wonder if these "potential" foreign investors have heard the saying:

"to earn one million dollars in the DR you have to invest two million dollars".

"The CBC is an umbrella organization of major companies"

Just a nice get together to talk about who is left to extort of their natural recourse and cheap labour...

Bribes in hand, they are all ready to come over and get nice exemptions, tax brakes and cheap labour, right up to the time someone else is willing to sell off their country to them cheaper...

"facebook in three dimensions" very nice!

The Dominican Republic is very good for growing small foreign business - from big foreign business.
