Santo Domingo.- Barrick Gold Corp. on Monday admitted that only one of its shipments of the gold-silver ore (doré) shipped from its mine at Pueblo Viejo had been subjected to a customs inspections in the Dominican Republic, but declined comment when asked about the Government’s assertion that it registered the metal’s origin as the United States in its most recent export.
Barrick Pueblo Viejo PR director Jorge Esteva said he was “worried” about the many reporters and photographers present in the inspection of Barrick Gold’s doré shipment at the Las Americans International Airport, where he admitted that “only one of 19 or 18” had been verified by the Customs Agency. “When we talk about shipments of great value, it’s of concern to have some much media present.”
When asked about Customs' decision to inspect the shipment, the executive said it was surprising.
He couldn’t however explain why Barrick registered the gold as of U.S. origin, and didn’t know the specific amount of gold and silver in the doré being retained in the airport warehouse.
For the current inspection, only 8 crates of dore will be subjected to inspection.
Esteva, interviewed on CDN, one of many outlets present in the ongoing inspection, complained of the treatment, noting that even the Central Bank isn’t subjected to that type of scrutiny.

Again the government needs to review their aloof customs export policies, more so in the case of gold and silver, since this revenue and its accountability is so crucial for the country, more so at this particular juncture.
Every shipment must be weighed, tested, and certified by mining experts hired by customs, not just customs officials or employees, looking for handouts.

dreadlocks
The very Dominican trait, regarding putting the lock, after the robbery has taken place is very prevalent in this case.
We can not demand the arbiters to rule in our favor after crying: foul!, if even our own legislators, who were the guilty party, and have not been condemned or even chastised.
If public opinion regarding this case, is to be steered the DR way, then those officials guilty of the steam roller approval, of the second amended Barrick contract, including LF, should be summarily jailed and tried for treason, for crimes against the state.
In Dante's inferno, the seventh and most terrible stage of hell was reserved for the corrupt, as those criminals incurred in crimes that affect millions that voted for them.

In China the traitors would have been publicly executed, no questions asked. In DR they salivate to still have another chance to deliberate, and have their hands out, for another quick approval of a new Barrick gold contract, that is all they care about.
That is why I questioned the PLD and LF supporters, and question their present motives as well, since it was none other than Leonel Fernandez, that rushed through the revised contract in 2009, like a slight of hand three card monte deal, with the anointment of the majority PLD legislators, that now are claiming that "they didn't read it".

because LF probably told them that there was no need to read it, but just to sign on the dotted line. General, is it looking strange to you that posters like JHCL have not posted anything about Leonel in 2016 ever since this broke?

Unbelievable !!!
The Barick Gold Administration, and Leonel Fernandez, together with Hipolito,
should all be in Jail by now.
There is no Justice in DR these days.
But we most not give up, or let it slide, we need to keep demanding justice.
Righteous justice for all, according to crime.
