Santo Domingo.- Haitians in the country (458,233) are 87.3% of the immigrant population, says Dominican Republic’s first National Immigrant Survey (ENI-2012).

The National Statistics Office (NSO) census tallied 524,632 immigrants from at least 60 nations living in the country, or 5.4% of the total population estimated at 9.7 million.

After Haiti, the countries with the most immigrants figure the United States (13,524), Spain (6,720), Puerto Rico (4,416), Italy (4,040), China (3,643), France (3,599), Venezuela (3,434), Cuba (3,145), Colombia ( 2,738) and Germany (1,792), mostly in urban areas.

Appears low. One (1) million are said to reside without documents, so this needs to be cleared up.

As I understand it these are the one who were counted!!! The rest are illegal and I am sure they didn't want to be counted, and not just those from Haiti but many others as well.

Illegals are like roaches, for every one that you see there are ten that you dont. Why would anyone admit they are illegal? Also, publishing the real number would most likely start a war.

"The ENI-2012 is a probabilistic sample survey with an effective sample size which covered some 68,000 homes and habitable places, with about 13,449 completed interviews done on immigrants and 6,997 done on native descendants of immigrants, for a total of about 20,446 people of foreign origin."

BullS..... there's like two million vermin's in the country. I want to see the methodology of this survey. They probably did the survey in the capital alone.

The National Statistics Office (ONE) has tallied 534,632 immigrants from 60 countries living in the Dominican Republic, Minister of Economy Temistocles Montas reported yesterday. Of the total, 458,233 were born in Haiti, which is 87.3% of the total immigrant population. The information is documented in the first national survey on immigrants in the Dominican Republic by the National Statistics Office (ONE) that was financed by the United Nations Population Fund and the European Union.

Pollsters used a sample of 68,000 inhabited households and interviewed 13,449 immigrants.

In addition, the survey reveals that 209,912 people are dependents of the Haitian immigrants.

The results were unveiled by Minister of Economy, Planning and Development Temistocles Montas at the Presidential Palace yesterday, Wednesday 1 May. Montas said the poll also revealed there were 13,524 immigrants from the US, 6,720 from Spain and 4,416 from Puerto Rico. Next is Italy with 4,040
