Santo Domingo. – Dominican Republic is running around “like a chicken with its head cut off” in the heels of Haiti’s ban on local poultry products that took effect for more than one week, as various sectors suggest ways to deal with the expected glut.

Agriculture minister Luis Ramon Rodriguez, who met today with north region chicken and egg farmers, said the government could buy the projected excess, including half a million laying hens, to resell the meat locally.

The official also asked lawmakers and producers to “tone down the tension" on this issue, since “the world isn’t going to end."

In that regard, Elias Piña (west) senator Adriano Sanchez said 9-day losses from the ban have reached RD$100 million, adding that the Government should buy the chickens and eggs to feed the poorest families.

Export to Venezuela

And while other sectors suggest exporting poultry products to Venezuela to pay for oil within the Petrocaribe agreement, Finance Minister Simon Lizardo called it not feasible for now. "Venezuela requested the products it needs. They haven’t asked for chickens or eggs thus far."

Easy solution: train DR chefs and cooks how to prepare a great won ton soup.

Like at my favourite Chinese restaurant at home.

The chef puts three or four raw chickens in a huge pot of boiling water and lets them simmer for half a day. He then removes the cooked chickens, leaving behind a savory broth.

And to the broth he adds: boiled wontons stuffed with ground pork; cooked broccoli, carrots, cauliflour, and bok choy; and finally some soya sauce for flavour and colour.

DR chefs and cooks follow that recipe and it will make for a sopa de won ton que rico.

It's time the DR looked else where to sell its product, keep the border under a semi-lock down and only let through those with the appropriate documentation.
South America, Central America have a market for our products, lets sell them there.. Haiti will cry in due time when shortage of everything hits the streets..

Haiti is the only country in the western hemisphere that does not produce anything at all I mean nada....! Neither South nor Central america is a good option for the DR all they need to do is to negotiate that's it....! You're talking abou $40 billions every year my man! Maybe you do not know the facts
