Santo Domingo.- Mexico’s cement giant Cemex on Tuesday unveiled the model housing project Altos del Higuamo, San Pedro (east) whose 568 units will be built at a cost of RD$750 million.
President Danilo Medina, Cemex Dominicana president Carlos Gonzalez and senior executives headed groundbreaking for the project’s first phase, of which 186 units will be of social interest.
Medina and Gonzalez toured two of the model homes already built, and feature green areas, services, stores, playground, sports area, wastewater treatment plant, underground cables, concrete streets and solar energy in common areas.
In his keynote speech, Gonzalez lauded the government for having created the conditions to attract and guarantee foreign investment and speedy paperwork through the One-stop Window.
He said the RD$2.4 million cost per unit places them at the price range of affordable housing. "We recently received the affordable housing certification, issued by the National Housing Institute, which will allow buyers to receive the benefit of the Housing Bond in the amount of up to RD$247,000 and have a much lower down payment for the acquisition of their own roof."
