Barahona, Dominican Republic.- "We never lost faith, I always understood that we should keep pushing to achieve the purpose we finally reached, the approval of the 249.9 million dollar loan for the dam at Monte Grande."
Barahona Diocese Bishop Rafael Leonidas Felipe Nuñez, quoted by listin.com.do, lauded the Chamber of Deputies for approving of loan, after passing in the Senate just last week.
The prelate, who is also president of the Enriquillo Region Development Committee, said it’s now up to the government to allocate matching funds, which should be included in the supplementary budget,
He said he’s confident president Danilo Medina will earmark the funds because, in his view, the chief executive has good intentions for the country, especially, he notes, because he’s a native of the region.
The bishop said Monte Grande contractor Andrade Gutierrez must now accelerate construction on the dam, considered the most important infrastructure built at the Enriquillo region in the last 50 years.
