Santo Domingo.- The river ferry station for the "amphibious buses" to transport residents of the Ozama riverbank to the new housing complex the Government will build, called La Barquita, is planned for an area already cleared in the slum Gualey.

The evicted area will make way to extend the Santo Domingo Metro second line, and link the ferry with the mass transit system.

After receiving the funds from the Finance Ministry to continue the Metro II line, its management agency (Opret) began stepping up the evictions of the section in Gualey, where it prepares the bases for the train’s suspension bridge.

The second line was first planned to start at the Los Alcarrizos subdivision in the west, but a lack of funds limited it to the Kilometro 9 area next to the Duarte Highway.

The line will now cross the "La 17" bridge to reach the Mella Highway and the sprawling subdivision of San Luis in the future.

What a waste of time - a decent bus network is what is required.

I totally agree bus feeders are needed. Yet, the big obstacle the government has to overcome is dealing and coming to agreement with the transport sindicates who want exclusive rights of operation servicing the Metro line stations.

How many river ferry sindicates does the government have to deal with ? Catch my drift ?
