Santo Domingo.- Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo on Thursday said the Government will spend around US$95.0 million to build beltways around the southern cities of Azua and Bani, which he affirms will ease traffic and boost their economies.

He said the Government is commitment to that type of roadway because in addition to help motorists, “also create thousands of jobs, save time and energy for our citizens and impacts the environment favorably.”

He said the 14-kilometer Azua beltway, whose construction has already begun, will cost of US$40.0 million, whereas the 13-kilometer one at Bani will cost US$55.0 million.

He said once concluded the works will also lead to lower costs on freight and passengers in the region. “The freight on farm products from the south region will now have lower costs because there’ll be considerable savings in distance and time to reach both populations."

The statement of "lower costs on freight and passengers in the region" is extremely general. The addition of the Coral Highway to the Punta Cana tourist zone has not realized any savings of freight or passenger costs to its residents.. The savings, if any, has gone into the pockets of the service providers; not passed down to the consumers.

The savings is of transit time.

The beltway for Moca is probably much more needed.

When is Moca going to get a long over due belt way.

The traffic jams in Guauci and Estancia Nueva are chaotic, not mention all the accidents.

San Francisco, Puerto Plata, and Nagua , Salcedo and Licey al Medio are priorities also.

Those will come, Rokete. The one in Santiago is almost finished, and SD's should be done by August. After that, Danilo will keep pushing for more roads, including the Cibao-Sur highway.
It'll take sometime, but they'll get built, no doubt.

_____________

Good point Danilo.

Everytime I go to the East, to La Romana, or Juan Dolio,

I get this freaking jam at Boca Chica and Andres.

The truck driver coming out of the sea port are a bunch of inconsiderate brutes.

Boca Chica and Andres, Caucedo all the way to the airport, should have a beltway too.
