Santo Domingo.- New Zealand and the Dominican Republic on Saturday announced diplomatic relations "guided by the mutual desire to develop and strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries."

Dominican Foreign minister Carlos Morales and New Zealand counterpart Murray McCully signed the Protocol, the Dominican Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

The two officials said diplomatic relations will strengthen both nations and reaffirmed their commitment to the United Nations Charter.

Morales said New Zealand can become a major contributor fr the Dominican Republic, especially agriculture, livestock and energy, “areas where we could establish cooperation programs."

McCully said his country has great expectations from the diplomatic ties with the Caribbean nation, adding that Wellington is willing to provide scholarships for Dominican students in areas of New Zealand’s expertise.

What great expectations?

This is just another diplomatic office for a PLD crony to live in New Zealand at DR taxpayers expense.

More BS from a do nothing official.

New Zealanders are a very progressive and civilized peoples. We stand to gain much from their expertise in many areas we're lacking, such as agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and higher education.
If they're willing, we should take in whatever they can offer and thank them for all. On the other hand, don't really know what we could possibly offer them in return. Maybe hot women, sun, and rum.!?

Laman00. Tell us which country signs diplomatic ties with another country just for the sake of it. Every country that has diplomatic tie with another country is because one way or another each country is benefiting from the other. Why countries sent diplomatic corp to another nation, to try to get business from that country pure and simple.

"" What I don't understand how come the MAGIC MAN PRESIDENT Hasn't Signed up the TIBETAN MONKS and the GYPSYS FROM ROMANIA YET?????...."---Dummy00

Well, there's good reason for that. Let me explain.

The Tibetan monks have taken a bow of silence and it's darn difficult to communicate, even with sign language. Plus they're poorer than we are. Certainly no help there.

Now, Romanian Gypsies are a tough bunch to fool, too.! I mean, they invented the word "scam", and you can't get any better than they at this game. So, again, no money there. However, we may still be able to convince them, (for a price of course), to receive a few of our elite scammers for a refresher course in furthering this lucrative sideline, done expertly here, in all levels of society.

I'd say we're near the top when it comes to getting something for nothing. Don't you.?

Sports are like colors. It's a matter of choice and whatever turns you on.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion on which sport is best. It's all subjective.

Some people love Basketball. I personally don't go for it, but I wouldn't call it a "boring" game. After all, millions like you, love it and it's evidenced by the mega millions it grosses annually.

The same can be said for Baseball. The AVERAGE attendance per game played almost everyday by every MLB team is 30.000 fans.
The total attendance for all 24 teams is > 72 Million people per year, in the US, alone.

Baseball isn't for everyone, but for many in Japan, Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Panama, and the Dominican Republic, it's the ONLY game there is.!

Don't like Baseball.? Fine. It's not for everyone. But don't go around generalizing. Only stupid people do that. Are you one.?

Jamaicans may not be known for being honest, but their politicians do not steal half the national budget. secondly, when i lived there, i could lend someone money and expect to get repaid. don't get me started about honesty. if you have a shred of self respect, you would not get into an argument with someone from a different country on the subject of honesty.
Written by: Radar, 5 Jul 2014 9:47 AM
From: Dominican Republic

There are some good things to be said about our nation. None has any to do with its people.
Honesty is hard to find here. Even family members will try to take advantage, if you let them.
Some will borrow and never pay back. Others will try to overcharge for a purchase. Others, still, will charge ahead for a job, and never complete it.
A few months ago, this character, married to a distant relative, came to me saying he'd be surely arrested and sent to prison if he did not immediately pay a $10.000 peso debt.
Foolishly, I loaned him part of it. Turns out it was a sham. The guy disappeared and when I enquired to his family about this, was told he does this on a regular basis to naïve people like me.

Well, I learned my lesson. And I would say it was well worth it. Now, no one gets a cent from me.
The guy's family has had lots of trouble lately meeting its bills. They are months in arrears with their rent. Would I lend them money.?.. Ha.!
Written by: Radar, 5 Jul 2014 10:13 AM

Honesty is a precious quality, indeed. It serves one well. It brings good things and makes life that much easier. It will keep you out of trouble and save much grief and worries. It is an ace in the hole. Something to reach for in times of need.
It will bring good people closer, and separate one from the bad ones. Reputation will precede you and open many doors. Good things happen to good people.

Sometimes, however, some will take advantage of that honesty. No matter. It costs a little, but it's worth a lot. It's certainly worth the cost of finding out whom your true friends are.
Honesty is peace of mind.

Radar, i am a sucker for the sight of people living in hard times. i find it hard to say no when a guy gives me a sob story, and needs a few pesos. sadly, in over 20 years in and out of this country, i have never met ONE person who has honored his obligation to me regarding a loan. as we speak, i know one guy who is upset because he owes me 700 pesos, has not repaid me, then asked me for another loan. i told him i will consider it if he pays me the first amount. so, he tells people i am cheap. it is not his fault. i am the bad guy.
Written by: Radar, 5 Jul 2014 1:05 PM

Dread, the entitlement mentality here is rampant and amazes me to no end. The same has happened on occasions. I "lend" someone a few pesos, knowing full well I would never get it back. I do this create distance between us and have one less person to deal with. But sometimes the same person comes back to ask for another "loan", as if time had, somehow, voided that debt.

The gall of these people. They also call me cheap and "hambriento" which suits me fine. Now people don't come asking for loans. They know the answer will always be "NO".

I do sometimes, give people money because, like you, They seem in great need and are not trying to flummox you. It feels good to help out when there's a dire need and one can, in a small way, make things a little easier for them.
