Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center- COE - on Friday issued flash flood warnings for Greater Santo Domingo  and the southern and eastern regions, as Tropical Storm Bertha steams towards Hispaniola after crossing into the Caribbean.

It said people in San Pedro, La Romana, La Altagracia, San Cristobal, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, Samana, María Trinidad Sánchez and Santo Domingo provinces should take precautions, especially residents at low lying areas.

In a press conference COE director Juan Manuel Méndez said all first-response agencies have activated contingency plans, and urged citizens to call 809-472-0909 for detailed information.

The National Hurricane Center said T.S. Bertha is expected pass Sunday between Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, where downpours will mean relief from the months-long drought.
