Dominican Republic: More than beach, bachata & baseball

Santo Domingo.- Foreign Minister Andrés Navarro yesterday urged Dominicans diplomats accredited abroad to be more aggressive in disseminating information on the country, especially the government’s human rights and social policies.

The official’s plea came during the second day of the First Dominican Diplomacy Forum, which concludes today at the Foreign Ministry, with 45 ambassadors and 43 consuls.

Navarro said the Foreign Service must be confident, optimistic, effective, consulate income must be transparent, the rights of Dominicans secure and the country must be positioned in global organizations. In that sense, Navarro called the diplomats to take this new policy with.

Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo urged every diplomat to harness their energy to find opportunities for the country. “It’s time to let the world know that the “Dominican Republic is more than beach, bachata and baseball.”

He said the Export and Investment Center (CEI-RD) in preparing a list of exportable products by region to pass them on to each diplomat for them to go look for opportunities.
