LatAm ex presidents laud country’s social, economic progress

Santo Domingo.- Five Latin American former presidents on Friday lauded Dominican Republic’ social and economic progress in recent years, especially in the social agenda.

Laura Chinchilla, Costa Rica; Carlos Mesa, Bolivia; Luis Lacalle, Uruguay; Manuel Zelaya, Honduras and Eduardo Stein, Guatemala met with president Danilo Medina in the National Palace, where they thanked him for the reception.

Speaking for her colleagues, Chinchilla said the Dominican Republic has become an ideal space to reflect on issues of Latin America’s regional agenda.

"It’s a country with independence, with the challenges like all of the world’s nations still need to address, we must acknowledge what it has achieved in recent years, such as important and successful progress in the economic and social agenda," Chinchilla said.

She said the leaders stated their desire to Medina to progress in fulfilling the legitimate expectations of the Dominican people.
