Big business repeats; Govt. must supply info for energy pact

Santo Domingo.- The National Business Council (Conep) on Sunday asked the government to provide all the information required for the work sessions leading to the National Agreement to Reform the Electricity Sector (Electricity Pact).

The Conep, by way of Economic and Social Council (CES) president monsignor Agripino Nuñez, reiterated its request for information on power generation and distribution; financial statements of the electricity distribution companies (EDE) and of the State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE), the Hydroelectric Generation Company (Egehid), the Dominican Electricity Transmission Company (ETED), the Reformed Companies Patrimonial Fund (Fonper), among others.

"The above information was requested a few weeks after the call to the work of the pact and was only partially received," said the Conep in a statement.

It said a number of items are pending which in its view are essential before entering the final stage, “without which it´s impossible for the social, business and labor sectors to be on an equal footing with industry and government representatives, as these sectors do not handle all data on the current situation on the electricity sector is based on.

It said information requested fall under the Free Access to Public Information Law, which should be available to the public. “There´s no reason for the delay in the delivery of this information, especially when dealing with a process like the covenant, which the government is the one who has called on sectors and civil society to take part.
