Catholic schools will be free of charge, 130,000 students benefit

Santo Domingo.- Theschools run by the Catholic Church will be free of charge, which will benefit morethan 130,000 young and adult students from the country´s vulnerable sectors.

The agreement signed Thursdayby Education minister Carlos Amarante and Dominican Episcopal Conference presidentbishop Nicanor Peña says the schools of the Catholic Church will function likepublic schools administratively and pedagogically.

This agreement whichregulates the relations between the Episcopal Conference and the Education Ministryforms part of the General Education Law and the Education Pact for QualityEducation signed in 2014.

As stated in theagreement, Education will pay the salaries of the administrative and supportstaff and the teachers, who will also be included in the Education Ministry´s educatordevelopment and training programs.
