Labor chief announces program to ‘Dominicanize’ constructions

Santo Domingo.- Labor minister Maritza Hernandez on Tuesday announced a program to Dominicanize labor in construction, looking to attract more Dominican workers to the sector, and enforce the law that stipulates a 80% Dominican-20% foreigner proportion.

The program created the Labor in Construction Inclusion Committee, in charge of setting appropriate guidelines to achieve the goal.

She said the committee approved by the Labor Minister, with representatives from several construction workers unions and the Builders and Housing Developers Association (Acoprovi).

Hernandez added that the committee will enroll all workers who seek jobs as electricians, masons, plumbers, carpenters, etc. and create the Construction School to train people in that area.
