Korea to help protect forests, develop timberlands

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Environment Ministry and Korea’s Forest Service on Tuesday agreed to enact various programs to prevent and control forest disasters and develop ecotourism in national parks.

Dominican Environment minister Bautista Rojas and Korea Forest Service minister Shin Won Sup signed the agreement at Environment headquarters, which also calls for investment to develop forestry resources.

The pact includes industrial lumber plantations, biomass production, and a plan to improve regulations, policies and management mechanisms for sustainable forestry management within protected areas.
