Civil Aviation projects 100,000+ flights this year

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) director Alejandro Herrera on Tuesday said the increase in flight operations in recent months lead to projection for yearend 2015 will exceed last year’s more than 100,000.

Herrera said the increase in air operations is positive for Dominican Republic’s economy and aviation system.

He said IDAC provides all facilities for new airlines to obtain certification, noting that currently as many as seven new carriers going through the process. “Some of those airlines are already in the final process for the start of its operations.”

Quoted by listin.com.do, the official stressed IDAC’s work to achieve the Dominican government’s goal of attracting more than 10 million tourists per year.

He added that around 100,000 air operations were conducted in Dominican Republic last year, which he affirms made period one of the most productive in the country’s civil aviation history.
