AES Dominicana launches major natural gas projects for the region

Santo Domingo. – AESDominicana, an affiliate of AES Corporation, launches LNG trans-shipment andLNG bunkering services for the Caribbean, Central and South America, leveragingthe company’s world-class LNG receiving and storage terminal and fuel handlingcapability in the Dominican Republic.

“AES Dominicana aimsto become a regional trans-shipment hub in order to provide cost effectiveenergy solutions to fuel consumers in the Caribbean, Central and SouthAmerica,” stated Edwin De Los Santos, President of AES Dominicana.

In order to developthese new businesses, AES has brought in an expert in the industry, GeorgeNemeth, a professional with more than a dozen years’ experience working forExxonMobil, Merrill Lynch Commodities and Koch Supply and Trading.

Nemeth explained:“Work has begun to re-configure the existing AES Andres LNG receiving terminalin the Dominican Republic for LNG re-loads onto vessels between10,000m3-60,000m3.

The combination ofAES Dominicana’s ability to procure competitively priced LNG and the capabilityto deliver small loads of LNG allow for cost effective gas conversion solutionsfor smaller-load fuel consumers in the region.

The facility is alsolocated along many shipping routes ideally positioned to provide LNG bunkeringservices to vessel owners and operators who are increasingly drawn to LNG as apropulsion fuel.”

The AES Andres LNGterminal will be ready for re-load operations in the 3Q2016. Currentdevelopments for vessel bunkering infrastructure are also underway.

In 2014, AES received17 standard-sized cargos of LNG for electricity generation and truckdistribution in the Dominican Republic.

The use of LNG vsburning liquid fuel allows the Dominican Republic to save around 600 millionUS$ annually and to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 300,000 tons per year.
