Truckers upbeat on lifting halted transport to Haiti

Santo Domingo.- Dominican and Haitian officials and the freight sector will meet in Port au Prince Thursday to try to end the deadlock on freight transport to Haiti now it its 20th day.

Dominican truckers’ union (Fenatrado) president Blas Peralta said Dominican ambassador in Haiti Luis Silie will attend the meeting slated for 11am.

"We´ve already reaching some agreements, we´ve met about seven times. We believe that the agreements will be finalized today," Peralta said.

He declined providing details on the agreements, noting that the authorities of both countries have shown a willingness to find a solution.

Fenatrado halted freight transport to Haiti to demand guarantees of safety for tuckers and payment for losses from arson and pillage they say place at millions of dollars.
