Talks start for a Dominican-Cuba trade pact: Prensa Latina

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic and Cuba have begun talksleading to a partial trade agreement on reduced tariffs, Cuban State-owned wireservice Prensa Latina reports Friday .

During a presentation hosted by the Dominicanmerchants grouped in the FDC, Cuba ambassador Carlos de la Nuez said the negotiationsare in their first stage.

"The Dominican Republic has thepotential to become a major supplier of products to Cuba and a partial scopeagreement would facilitate that exchange," De la Nuez said, as quoted bythe wire service.

FDC president Ivan Garcia said the signing ofa bilateral agreement would impact tariffs.

"According to local statistics, thetrade exchange between Cuba and Dominican Republic in 2015 was around US$80million, of which US$54 million are Dominican exports to Cuba," PrensaLatina reports.
