Santo Domingo.- The local coordinator of the environmental initiative Earth Hour on Thursday called on citizens to turn off the lights in their homes on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30pm.

In a National Palace press conference, Eddy Vasquez said Earth Hour urges the people to adopt a greener lifestyle and noted that several companies and institutions pledged to turn off their lights that day, including Agora Mall and Galeria 360, and Santiago’s Monument to the Heroes.

He said for this third year the National Palace and several government agencies will join Earth Hour, which is being celebrated in 7,000 cities in 172 countries during the past 10 years.

Turn off the lights in their homes on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. Most will be lucky if they have lights to turn off and will have been without light for hours before and after this.
