NOT!. heck, if the italians have Bensonhurst, and the Irish have woodlawn, and the russians have brighton beach, and the armenians have pelham parkway, what makes you believe any of these groups wants any hispanics in their midst? why do you believe that hispanic kids cannot pass through pelham parkway after dark? Well i do believe the pigmentation of the skin will help in the US. I am sure cubans who are more like Senator Mendez will have a better reception than a mullato/black Yoskar from dominican republic. I believe location does play a role, as well as stereotypes. Personally, for some cuban expats, it is hard for me to tell the difference between them and a white person. Not to mention, if their demeanor caters more to white people, im sure a white person won't mind as much to someone who is dominican and saying Ya tu sabes all the time. White people usually go about dealing with minorities with stereotypes. If a person with their same color, breaks their stereotypes will be received in a good manner. It may be a small bump, but if a white cuban, colombian, and chilean act white, and look white, i think all is good in the neighborhood. America first looks at skin tone, then behavior, and then they will ask you where you are from. If the first two are positive, integration will not be that hard. |

NY state and providence (clown town) in the mid 90's I would have to say that if I had to chose between there and London, I would chose London, but it all depends on what background and aspirations people have, in terms of community/having a good time in a latin place London is ...well crap. there arent that many Dominicans here I would say no more than 200. NYC on the other hand is full of us and you should consider yourself lucky to be there as its home away from home! Good thing about UK is its cheap to travel to other countries, you can get an education (depends on immigration status) employment markets are OK for now, its a very diverse city and racism is kept under wraps thanks to legislation. If you want to come to the UK come in the summer, I would say London is the most beautiful city in the world (in the summer that is) it can be expensive though so bear that in mind. Having said that, people arent that bothered about what label your wearing or what car you drive, how much money you make, I know that used to be a pain in the ass when I was in the US......you have nothing you are nothing! Hope that helped |
