Am not trying to appear so but that was his perception... Sorry if it hurts. " I don't know if being confused for italian is a source of pride for you but the last time someone made that mistake with me I gave them a thorough tongue lashing. Besides, I've met MANY Italians who have negro features (weather it be dark skin, coarse hair, a very wide nose, thick lips or a combination of all of the above. Check out the pics of these degenerate criminals who are of Italian origin :http://www.state.nj.us/lps/ge/exclpics/riccobene_h.jpg and http://members.fortunecity.com/sosdie/mob/family/philly/bruno.jpg) so what does that say about Italian "whiteness"? I've traveled extensively in this country and I can assure you that many Italians would be treated no differently than other minorities in certain parts of the US and that's a fact. I'd say most light skinned mullattoes can pass for italian. The people of Louisiana, long accustomed to light skinned mixed individuals in their midst, refused to consider Italians as white in the early 20th century precisely because of their physical similiarities to light skinned mullattoes and forced the Italians to attend "colored" schools as a result, the only European group on record to suffer such a humiliation in the United States. Somewhere out there there's a pure blooded sicilian that can pass for Anthony Santos' twin. Geographically and historically there may be an explanation for the dark complexion of southern Italians. Remember Italy is very close to northern Africa. In ancient times the Roman Empire was very cosmopolitan and had people from all the races living on their conquiered lands. Additionally, now in modern history, Italy once invaded and controled the city of Tripoli in Libya and had intention of annexing it. So you know that intermixing was inevitable. If fact, all of the European countries that run all along the mediterranean, Southern Portugal, Spain, France, Sicily, Greece most look like your average Latin American. What is most interesting that in those same countries the northern inhabitants tend to look more nordic scandanavian looking, fair skin with light colored eyes and Hair. Northern Italians look more like Germans, the same with Spain, and France. So even in Europe you have physical characteristics that vary widely within the very same caucasian race. Honestly, at first i truly hated it, but surprisingly so, there was a HUGE Dominican community around the way, and Italians loved Dominicans and least from my experience. Thanks to my fellow Dominicans i fully enjoyed and embrace the Italian culture which they opened me up to... I was even able to develop very good friendships with Italian people whom i still skype with today lol!! however we did bring the Dominicanism to the country, we would cook by the river, got to gether to drink and play domino, attended many hispanic clubs lol even dj'ed a couple. El Dominicano se encuentra donde quiera, i'm in Montana now, there is about 6 of us here, we stick together as if we've known each other for years lol... this post really has no point to it, kinda just sharing my experience, i've also been to calgary canada, and met 1 dominican who was playing baseball for calgary lol, but from what i saw, i def wouldn't mind moving to Canada from a couple yrs |
