We have to help Haiti for human reasons and we are a spending our limited resources resolving their problems and we only get Haitian ingratitude. They use to talk a lot about Dessalines and their past. Naturally, Haitians do not say anything about how they are sending today their children in regrettable conditions to our Dominican streets. This is happing NOWADAYS with our Consejo Nacional para la Niñez (Conani) –the DOMINICAN National Council for Childhood–. We have to stop events like this one at any cost. REVELATION Haitian children overflow services of the Conani. Friday, April 17, 2009. Updated, 2:59 A.M. Santo Domingo. - Of the 15,000 children whom Conani in its Infantile Centers of Integral Attention takes care of, 3,250 are Haitian minors. In many schools of Higüey and Barahona, Kirsys Fernandez said, executive president of Conani, the population of Haitian students surpasses the Dominican one. In the majority of the operative ones of collection of children in the streets, she added, the majority are Haitians. She expressed that this situation worries her, and at the same time she announces that she will treat the subject with the Haitian ambassador in the country. Many of the funds of the institution in terms of education, health and feeding are destined to Haitian children, indicated the civil servant. Frequently Conani realizes operatives, with the support of public prosecutors, for the collection of children of the streets. These minors are taken to provisional homes, later their relatives are located and a social and familiar study is made to determine their conditions and if there is an exploitation of the parents. In many cases, said Fernandez, they have determined that grandparents and uncles explode to children in the streets. Adopciones Conani (Conani Adoptions) is the institution of the country that grants the adoptions of children for Dominicans and for foreigners. The proceedings of adoptions are totally free, said Fernandez. The person who wishes to give a boy in adoption must go to Conani, where a socio-familial study is done to him. In 2005, 59 national adoptions and 60 international were made; in the 2006, 66 and 37; in the 2007, 27 and 25, and in the 2008, 21 and 15. The majority is by abandonment in hospitals. The law establishes a term for the invalidity of the adoption in case it is necessary. Edited on 4/17/2009 8:13 PM by PeRod. |

These are the values of the Gross Domestic Product per capita of some Caribbean countries. Why the Haitian tragedy must be our problem and only our problem? Cuba could be a better place for a lot of them but there is a problem: they do not want them over there (as everybody else). If we had done in 1937 what Cuba did in 1933 the history would be very different… and it is not too late yet. GDP - per capita (PPP) Puerto Rico $17,800.00 Cuba $9,500.00 Dominican Republic $8,100.00 Jamaica $7,400.00 Haiti $1,300.00 * * (And the situation is worse than what this number indicates. This is a national average. Only in Haiti 95% of the national wealth is on the hands or 5% of the population and those Haitian riches do not take care of their own people and we have to resolve part of their problems.) These are showed as a reference. United States $47,000.00 Canada $39,300.00 Mexico $14,200.00 France $32,700.00 Germany $34,800.00 Edited on 4/17/2009 10:09 PM by PeRod. |

This are some scary number and my guess by you pointing them out people will call you a hater and racist and everything else on the alphabet. Yet many people think this number are not enought and we have to do better according to them. In my opinion the leader of the region which is USA should do more and influence other to put something on the table so we can help in a way that won't drag down our system or else we have to move on and deal more with countries outside like the EU thats showing some interest and even China because lately i hear a lot of talking but nothing happens which scares me because DR patience has a limit and based on past history we know how bad it could get. However, I also know of those who use the premise of thier alleged missionary missions, churches and hiden-agenda(ed) intension to exploitatively gain from Haiti's impoverish situation or any other poor nation on this globe. For example, The Mormons I believe should be thrown out of Haiti for the mere fact that their teaching states that the black race is a plague yet they are in a black or colored nation hypocritically-pretentiously claim they are helping Haiti. These are the official numbers: ..............................................HAITI...................................................DOMINICAN REPUBLIC ..............................................Population.............................................Population ..............................................9,035,536........................................... 9,650,054 ..............................................(July 2009 est)......................................(July 2009 est) ![]() There is a similar population in both sides of the border but there is less territory in Haiti than in Dominican Republic (one third of the island less). And there is other problem too. Look at the geography. There are few valleys (the greener part) and too much mountains in Haiti (they stole us the Hincha Valley, without that valley their situation would be worse). Almost all the valleys are in our side. My fellows Dominicans, this picture and these numbers are talking very clear: we are going to have to push hard for retaining those Haitians in their side. |

The haitians are once again condemned to live another 50 years of misery until these guys pass away, that is if they are not replaced and since there's no shortage of crooks in Haity as reflected in their history i'll add another 50 years to the first 50, ]and thats me being optimistic... Indeed, these are all crooks and there are no shortage of them. From Senators, Deputies to the Elites; they all corrutivelly see self interest of their own pocket. The future of and for Haiti does not lie in the hands of these crooks. Haiti, I must honestly say, needs a dictatorship yet progressive enough to errect Haiti in a morebetter progressive state of mind. My proposals are and many can agree or disagree if they woud like; but that is my platform. Even though and as expectedly Education should be first, however, I would start the list off with... 1. MilitarizeHaiti. 2. Build Plenty Of Prisons 3. Decongestion Of Port-Au-Prince. 4. Agricultural Reforms. Ask me why first for each before denigate my proposal so that I could explain why I stand where I stand on this. I like this plan actually!!! Pleanty of Trade school would be nice too, to teach the grown population a trade since they are too old to start learning the basics, the kids should be trained from grade school to maturity but this would take a whole generation to accomplish... Nonethelest its a good start |

Personally I often agree with many other Dominicans on here. Haiti does have a habit of regressing too much in the past. Aristide is the past and with that being said we need new leaders and those leaders will not come from Haiti per say; but rather Haitians who have observed and exposed to other well functioning systems out of the norms of the corruption in Haiti. How bout Guy Phillippe.... He's known to have like Pinochet... |

I'd like to hear your propposal on this point, cuz' if there's something that have plagued Haiti for most of its existence, is the overabundance of strong armed men with invincible ambitions for political power. That would be a pritority Lautaro... By militarization one means, for ONE entity to have, as it is use in my political science class, "A Monopoly on violence" cuz you can't have ten guys with their own plans... |

Perod would agree that the island is overpopulated compare to Cuba 11 million, my other question there are 2 millions Haitians living in DR can you provide the official source of that index ? Last question, if there are 9 millions people in DR, and 2 millions Haitians does not that total your population to 11 millions, if the Haitians were to be included.? We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope. |
