I like watching the MU pageant each year as much as the next person who actually does, so when I heard about this I thought that the Miss Universe Organization wanted to offer Haiti an opportunity to participate in the Miss Universe pageant because of the devastating recent events. Oh Trump "n" nem'. lol. After realizing that this is all based on a franchise and that the winner looks Dominican herself, it was more so an opportunity for a business, probably Dominican-affiliated, not really representing Haiti in the least. Just another public relations stint. As a Haitian the pride-factor is only elevated when I hear people having shelter and job opportunites restored after what happened that's where most Haitians should be focusing their pride. Haiti already gained major "face-time" for its 15 minutes with what happened. Of course I'm still wondering who's really reaping the benefits of all of that, as people are still struggling to make way for survival from the devastation. To sum it all up, honestly I think this pageant had very little to do with Haiti. Edited on 5/18/2010 12:45 PM by talia. Bondye beni ou, Dios le bendiga! LOVE WHO YOU ARE, LOVE WHERE YOUR FROM! |

I've heard about the about the DR pageant director Magali Febles as well. "Magali Febles has a very bad reputation for her practices in the Miss Republica Dominicana. She holds the DR franchise, but lost the one to PR which she also controlled for many years. She's been hunting for Domincan models to pose for Haiti for a while, but most DR girls refused to impersonate a Haitian especially since most don't know how to speak Creole. The whole Miss Universe thing is business as usual, so lets not make a stink out of it. The girl seems to be very tanlented as well as very goodl looking so I wish her all the best..." Anyway, no matter how each girl gained her title we can only wish them the best of luck and hope that they share their opportunities with the rest of the world in the best light possible. Yes, absolutely true, though Haitian born, she is however Dominican raised and Dominican educated; Unfortunately, the new Miss Haiti is really culturally Dominican and probably can't neither relate nor identify with Haitian culture. And what is pathetically sad is that amongst all the competing Haitian candidates, she is coincidentally the only light skin contestant and it is precisely her who happens to be selected winner to represent Haiti a country that only has a 2-3% mulato population. But let us all place our feet on the ground. This is really about business and marketing. It has little to nothing to do about nationalism and patriotism, though that is precisely, what they want us to believe and the sponsors use these elements to work on our emotions. Guillermone I couldn't agree with you more in your whole post top to bottom. It's all about the dolla, dolla, bill and the prettiest face "to the big wigs of the biz." I usually try to see these pageants as "sporting events" not anything theortically inspirational or moving. Just fun to watch and some people bet too. Edited on 5/18/2010 5:05 PM by talia. She is stunning and a statuesque beauty. In my opinion and for my taste, she might even be better looking, a more complete beauty then the DR representative to the MU pageant at least in outer appearance. Nevertheless, she did earn a degree in law, so she's got to also be outstanding in the intellingence department. Now let see how she carries herself verbally, in grace and poise. No doubt I believe she will be tough competition, indeed. |
