"yeah okay" http://www.haitixchange.com/index.php/forums/viewthread/6369/ Hey, I do not think this person made your comment "her own". After all, she did not state that SHE has found them. She posted your exact same quote without actually saying that SHE herself found it. After all, it is Sarodj's comment and advertising about the Miss Haiti 2011 pageant. It is all about spreading the word into other Haitian-related sites and forums. |

In recently starting a blog of my own, I just learned that when you copy a pic. or info. from anywhere you must cite or mention where the info. was from and who originally published the words, comments, and or article. That's just proper online etiquette. A lot of people do not realize this proper usage and actually how important it is- I just came to understand this a couple of months ago. This is especially important with websites that are heavily viewed, updated, and monitored. Again, I get that a lot of people don't understand this. Plus, the person who copy-and-pasted my screen print that has my browser included could have easily clicked on the link in my post, gone to Sarodj's page, made a screen print of her facebook wall post of their own, citing Sarodj's page as the source the way I did or at least some where on the page. Screen Prints are very easy to do and all you have to do is cite the link on the bottom of the screen print when you post it online. Any one could do it with a normal computer keyboard. You just look for the button that says, "PrtScn" its usually towards the upper right-hand corner of the keyboard. Then you open your Paint program, copy and paste the picture, save it, and upload it with the proper citations on most websites. You can look up exactly how to do it. My defense is interesting, yes, because the author of the posting on HX was me. I realized I didn't cite the URL of where I found it, and I apologize. When I re-read it I realized that other people could read it as if it was me, but it was not my intention. I posted it on HX exactly as I found it (without the original citation which as a big mistake). Like I said, all I ever wanted to do is to advertise, in a Haitian site, since they would be interested. I've been posting there for like almost 3 years (since 2008). Most of my contributions are things that I find and not "make". There would be no reason or beneficial use for me to post it as my own. One more thing, if you do not want other people to keep re-posting your stuff on other sites without intentionally giving you credit I would suggest that you make a copyright sign on all your pictures and findings. For example, put the copyright sign and write your name (Talia, or whatever) right next to it. Always keep in mind that you are posting in a high volume and public website and could be utilized for informative purposes (like I do) and therefore information could be passed on without mentioning the original post or poster. Again, my apologies for this confusion. Edited on 5/14/2011 2:34 PM by Eriliza. |

If you prefer, I would either delete the post I made on HX or edited it and put the original link (your post here on DT). Again, I did not mean to strip you from your work or discredit you in any way. |

I wish more people had the courtesy though. Thanks again. Its really about the message like you said. Geared towards the Haitian community on HX anyway. God Bless.
