I'm in Haiti, which I find it difficult to operate without the help sponsors and such that would give them this promotion for people to support them and want to trust them to also have the right to have a representative in Miss Universe! .. People I need help paying for resources. If any sponsor or concentration can give assistance inbox!

Well that doesn't seem organized at all. I hope they know what they're doing and I hope they find sponsors. If you're gonna do it, do it right.

These things seem difficult to pull off, look what happened with Jamaica. Sheesh. I get that its expensive, but you need to make sure its even possible to have all your ducks in a row, before you can even go hunting. I appreciate their efforts so far though.

That was exactly my thought regarding this financial issue. I mean, it has been months since this was in the works and in the very last minute it turns out that they need sponsors in order to make this happen? Like what the heck.

It started pretty late (hours later than scheduled) and didn't have many attendees which suggested poor promo. (maybe I should go into PR, lol!) (that's public relations, not Puerto Rico)

Oh, I see. Well although I am a bit surprise with Jamaica, a lot of places do not place much importance on beauty pageants. Jamaica depends on tourism and sending a candidate to compete further promotes the island with a positive image of a beautiful women as representative for the world to see.

I think the same should apply to Haiti. It needs do the same which will most certainly help make the world keep their eyes and attention on them. There is a saying: "You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar." I mean people get tired of seeing the negative images of Haiti and after a while become indifferent, numb to the pain, suffering, hunger and poverty typically portrayed in the media.

However, if you take another approach, people will become and remain receptive. You can probably easily win over more people to your side with positives, using gentle persuasion and flattery rather then with negatives. A Haitian beauty queen will be a positive image, it makes people see that not everything is bad in Haiti. There are beautiful women and with her probably many other good things. People will begin to see Haiti under a different light. There is potential hidden in that country and all they need is further support from the world to help them get back on their feet.

Well maybe, I am over exaggerating with what a Haitian beauty queen can do and achieve. But the point I want to make is and I agee with talia, Haiti needs more positive PR. Everybody does it, and Haiti should do it too, why? because it works. I mean who does not know or have taken a sip out of a Coca Cola bottle? Coca-Cola does not really need more publicity, yet they continue to spend millions of dollars in advertising and promotions becuase they know it it worth it. So if there is anybody or a place that will benefit most, it will definitely be Haiti.

I agree with your whole comment Guillermone. Haiti can work hard to establish better PR as a matter of fact there's a group on facebook called "The Haiti they never show you" here's the link:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7464509958&v=photos&so=60 has almost 3,000 pictures of scenes and images that project a positive side of the struggling nation. Its hard to get people out of the fear of disillusionment but sometimes when everyone turns their back on something one person or a few have to fight for its significance in the world. I make that part of my mission for Haiti as much as people may laugh at me including my own mother.

Good for you Talia and I am happy to see that you are still trying and not given up on Haiti. Eventhough I know they are wrong, I understand why people have a sense of hopelessness. There is a generation of people that all of their lives have only seen things go from bad to worse and they can't help but feel cynical. I mean, the generation of my grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles that lived through the 30+ years of the Trujillo dictatorship after leaving, vowed never to return to the DR and had very few if anything good to say about their country because of all the pain and suffering endured.

Thank God 50 years later, the dictatorship is long gone and it is a new nation standing proud but with a whole new set of different challenges. That was made possible and could only happen because of people similar to your mindset who decided to do their part and make a difference and today we have a changed, country. I believe Haiti will be able to achieve the same and become what it once was, the flourishing jewel, pearl of the Antilles. But it will take time, money, energy, effort, hard work and people willing to make the difference.
