Another haitian dominican performer in recent time is Michel Batista...I have not heard anything new but he was doing some damage in RD. He is a salsa singer...haven't heard anything lately... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOvzDXcuy-o&feature=related Also, let us not forget Antony Santos, also Haitian-Dominican singer in DR and I know of another; but I can not seem to remember his name on top of my tongue right this instant. Thnx Hispanolo for the Fernandito y Felix Cumbe video. Those were the days! I wish Compas was today the way it was back then (Merengue too). Just put on one of these records and I'll baile right then and there. Funny thing is that I'm a rather young guy but I'm just into the golden age a little more than what we listen to today. There are some great Compas and Merengue songs out today but overall, it's not the same. |

There's extreme poverty, high unemployment, and military coups every 3 weeks.....The thing that keeps us from committing suicide is simply our love for life and nation. Despite all these malice, Haiti is also a country of beauty. There's pristine beaches that no one has ever even been to, mountains, valleys, lakes, and all other things that make you think of tranquility. Haitians are some of the most hospitable people on the planet. I can vouch for this because I know a lot of them. Nothing beats walking down a street and having a smiling face say Bonjour/Bonsoir to you. If you ever happen to decide to go to Haiti, I would suggest visiting Jacmel. Jacmel is a beautiful coastal town located on the southern peninsula. You can also visit the National Museum in Port-au-Prince......In there you will find solouque's crown, and Dessalines sword(rumored to have been used to kill a couple of Frenchmen). I also strongly suggest that you try some Haitian food. I take it that you might live in New York City, so a Haitian restaurant is not hard to find at all. You should try some "Griot, banane and pikliz" or some "marinade". Trust me, you would love it. Edited on 5/5/2008 1:37 PM by jemesouviens1804. j'ai vu J'ai participe Je me souvien - 1804 |

Like JeMeSouviens is saying, if you ever were to want to go to Haiti do not limit yourself to the populace of Port-Au-Prince. But if you are going to Port-Au-Prince, let me know so I could arrange some lodging hook ups for you in PetionVille and I can tell you where all the funs are at. It will be as though or as somewhat you never actually left DR. Port-Au-Prince or PetionVille are not all that Haiti has to offer. Go to the provincial countryside of the Country where the air is so pristine and the people are so friendly and inviting and so culturally educated and grounded with respect. Hinche and Cap Haitien, the nothern part of Haiti which is where most of my mother's father are from is pretty much like being in Sosua or Puerto Plata or the Cibao region in DR. I mean it sounds very similar what I would eat as a Dominican. Thanks for the recommendation! Hispanolo, Next time I head out to DR. I would be interested in traveling to Haiti. Thanks for letting me know where I could stay. If I'm able to visit Haiti, I'll let you know for further loding details. |

In terms of how the middle and upper class in haiti have a fun time. At the end of the day, there are extremes, but haitians are just down to earth people and life is the way you make it. http://www.kiprogram.com/new.htm Go to the pictures and gallery to see some haitian parties and carnival pictures. Kiprogram contains picture of the more affluent i would say. And for people who want to find where the hot parties of haiti are at, i definitely would love to see all of you guys in one of the Spectrum parties in haiti. www.spectrumparties.com and you can find pictures of the parties and the venues at http://spectrumparties.com/Spectrum07/pictures/index.html One last thing, I can't help to bring up one of my favorite carnival videos from T-Vice. I have nothing against, Djakout, they are just as good, but i like t vice better. http://youtube.com/watch?v=lvIei0UDHdI |
