You see Jaboa, that where you and me differ. Letting the US have my people as cheap labor is the same thing as modern day slavery. Know you may be okay with that, but I'm not. This is the exact reason why people always ridacule Haitians. All I'm asking is for them to treat us with the same respect that they give the European countries. We are human beings just like them and deserve to be treated fairly. If I lay down in bed with someone it has to be on mutual terms. I can't let a person use me by any means necessary. This is what the US has been doing to Haiti for over 204 years. This is what the whole world been doing to us. Now you have people all the way Sri Lanka trying to get a little taste.... So "zanmi mwen", when does it end. As far as Ericq Pierre goes, we need to stop giving our friends high paying post in the government and start giving it to people who are qualified. This guy is not even a politician and Preval gave him that post. I hope Preval knows what he is doing because his "bouda" could be next. I'm 24 years old Jaboa, and Im hoping before I die that I see Haiti regain its title as "la Perles de les Antilles".

Yes, we have hit the fork in the road when it comes to this. There is nothing wrong with cheap labour as long as the person is actually getting paid for rendering a service. What the hell do you want me to do? Pay some one that can't barely spell his name and have no structure a big salary. Then who am I suppose to cover the cost of running my business efficiently and making money. This is hurting dominican republic as well. Everybody want a phat salary and all the incentives but lack hand on experience. Im sorry but the job of the government isn't to provide for its citizens not to make them live like kings. Alot of things needs to be subsidise and foreign investment can help the country where it needs a hand.

You cant expect for dominicans and haitians to receive the same salaries as if in the USA. There should be a minimum salary of 150.00usa a month and paying people more that arent' qualified is insane and will never happen until therer is some form of economic revolution. This alone would help the lives of haitian families. It's a start. I am not willing to share what I have just because someone is poor. Working is always respecting than a hand out

Jemesouviens, I heart your concerns but that mentality isn't going to help haiti right now. We will forever be proud of history and culture, why should haitians go to DR for cheap labor when we can get it home? Why should they have dominicans mock them and ridicule them for cheap manual labor? If haitians get the jobs now, they can send their kids to school and their kids can change the outlook for future jobs being created in Haiti. Haitians must start somewhere, you can't build an economy based on high tech out of the blue. At this present moment, haiti has an overabundance of cheap labour. Not to mention, the general population is not ready for higher end jobs. We may be smart, yet our country isn't the safest place for investment.

Not condescending, but i know that from living in the US. I started working for minimum wage, and moved on to making salary. I had to start somewhere when i didn't have any other doors available. All it takes is time and patience, i don't think we can get anything overnight. Like Jabao mentioned, I would try to make new companies aid the Communities, similar to Digicel. Try to make sure the companies are not solely based in Port au Prince and have them spread out. Also, i think we need a strong goverment that can squash all of the instigators that feel that they can riot and destroy businesses whenever they want to. If we become the pearl of antillles and regain tourism as it once was, we must adopt a system similar to cuba's and allow the state to gain a good portion of tourist dollars. All we need now, is a leader with plans for the country. Cheap labor is going to come, we as haitians, must accept it for now. When we get ourself technologically savvy, we can move on to bigger and better things. Im sure haitians can do a lot of things, but like the US, u need the degrees to back you up.

As for Ericq Pierre, I really don't want another politician in the haitian government. I think Ericq Pierre can do well if he's in it for the betterment of the country. The best qualified person doesn't necessarily have to be a politician. Not to mention, because he isn't that seasoned, I believe he has more to prove to the haitian people. He is educated, and may have a different way of looking things. I am always up for change. I am crossing my fingers he won't let the people down.

MrDom

Honestly, I think YoSoy.... is a little out there. Reluctantly, I must agree with your comments. But i do feel that if haiti could be up to par with the Dominican economy if it was to remain stable and have a PLAN to Educate the population and create a better infrastructure. Haiti was once the richest colony in the western hemisphere. I doubt it will be the richest country in the Western Hemisphere, but i think haiti can definitely make big strides and have a strong economy like DR. But for this to be accomplished, there must be GOALS in bettering the country amongst the people. That has not been set yet, and i believe Haiti needs a good leader to get that ironed out amongst the population. I am not having big dreams, but judging from the history of most latin american countries, all it took was a good leader to steer a country in the right direction. A good example in recent years would be Peru and Costa Rica. If Haiti would remain stable and have key GOALS in bettering the country haiti will be right up there with DR. There's definitely an abundance of labor in haiti, haitians are pretty hard workers, and haitians can master many languages when it comes to Call Center which may happen in the distant future if the country steers itself to the right direction. The goal of being one of the top economies can definitely be accomplished. L'union c'est la force. Unity is Power, if there's unity a lot of things can happen. I think haitians will need this to make a strong economy possible in the future. Moreover, a stronger economy would help the Dominican economy, and help DR deal with less migrant workers crossing the border. To be honest, I am sure haitians would rather be on their side of their island if a stronger economy would arise. I am sure, Dominicans will deal with less migrants crossing the border, and the bad relationships amongst haitians and dominicans may start healing. For now this is a dream, but it can definitely turn into reality with Goals for the betterment of Haiti, as opposed to the elites and politicians.

How is it that I am out there and in need of a doctor? If I did not accept myself as Haitian it would be easy to just simply say that I am not and it would still always be a matter of self choice and acceptance regardless if you or anybody else would have liked it, would it not? It would be a lot easy to tell someone that I was only born in Haiti under given circumstance that my mother is Dominican and my father is a Jew.

You see, it would not be a hard thing at all if I were to want to claim that I am not Haitian, but I love being part Haitian just as well I love being part Dominican and just as much I have accepted my Jewish background. I always say or mention my roots because indeed I am proud and embrace them all and I am trying to show people that skin, racial and ethnic diversity does not have to be a division between two great people or free independent nations and that I do not have to chose a specific side. Thus, I do not have any problem being Haitian and as well as I am not going to deny my other counter parts of what I am in whole. Me stating that I am part Dominican, Haitian and Jewish is not a superiority trip on my part, but rather to show people that Haiti is full of diversity in it much like most other regions in or of the World. One of the main reason why Dominicans tend to always discriminate against Haitian is because the tend to always want to deny their African Ancestries and Embrace the European one because given DR's History and even currently they still look down on someone of rather a dark complexion and think highky of those that are white or rather fair skin.

That is what is wrong with most Haitians. When someone is proud to be who they are they take it as the person being self-indulged in self flattery or flattering in superiority the other side that they are. As Haitians, we cannot wish to defeat racism when we base everything on race itself and is much of an issue we have yet to address on the Haitian side ourselves. So it can not all be on the Dominicans fault if already race is the premise of both your hatred conceptions and low self loath and esteem. The promotion of Haiti to a higher place will require the acceptance of how diverse we are and can be and not penalize another for being mixed or not being mixed. Mixing has always been part of our history and most of what our composure is as inhabitants of the Island, period.

Now there goes the most ignorant comment which I am sure came from a Haitian. Since Haitians always rend to believe if one is proud to be mix it is because they do not want to be Haitian. Haitians always want to have people having to pick sides.

Haitians always feel that if someone is embrace all that they are in whole that it is because the are ashamed. Let me tell you something my friend, if I wanted to be ashamed of being Haitian or Dominicans, both has given me many disgusting more than plenty of reasons to, but I love being both Haitian and Dominican so much that it would have been the easy way out to disclaim, deny or ignore that of myself.

As for Dominicans, yes indeed, the minute they know you are part Haitian they are more quick to dismiss you or accept you as Dominican and that is how racially focused they are, yet they always try to suck up and embrace Europeans who are pretending to be latinos by allowing and giving them total immunity to roam and do as they please on the Island because they have money.

Denying myself to be either Haitian or Dominican would have been quite easy if that was what I wanted, but what you perhaps would fail to realize is that I would not be able to live with myself, sleep at night much less function properly if I was to have to live such a lie you "Petard". I am sorry for you for your statement. Had I have a problem with being who I am, do you think I would passionately express my concerns or careless that if both DR and Haiti were to inhalate each other out of the face of the Earth, you piece of Blood Clotted C U N T. That is the low level you want me to steep down with you is it not, you self-inferior racist prick.

The only true differences there are between the two Independent Nations are the ones we created fro ourselves with the hatred and false importance we have given to race, ethnical background and color. It is the flattery we have given stupid White Europeans above our African and native Taino ancestries.

The reason why Haitians cannot expect more of DR is because Haitians are divided and stuck on color and classism themselves. So who are we the new generation of both DR and Haiti to lay the entire blame on freaking Governments when we are embracing the teachings and injustices of the bloody past? You are really pathetic and much of a pitiful excuse of a human being, you piece of filth and infected slim of diseases!!! I feel sorry for you and sorry for myself that I have allowed myself to steep this low to your level, but I regress that a bastard like you deserves no mercy and grace since you own no decency mental capacity to carry a dialogue of peace without having to insult another one to feel great about yourself. I am sorry that you feel sorry for yourself as a indignant imbecile that you are.

RE: How is living in Haiti?

Statement like this is why Haiti is where it is at today. The fake notions and arrogant pride that each and every individual Haitians hold in their head thinking they only and alone can save Haiti yet never applied with actions and love for the Country. Oh they sure can talk and suggest and give multiple recommendations as to what they think will or can be best or the Country, but how many of them are actually engaging into promoting the image of Haiti by their actions and physical involvements in Haiti's cause...

Yeah, my point exactly and the cycle is repeated by especially those in the Diaspora abroad around the world. Oh well then, I must be one proud "Not Want To Be Haitian" then since I go to the Island almost every year or other year more so than any other Haitian or Dominican who claim they love their respective Nations. Why would I have any such an affinity with the Island when most, if not none, of my immediate family actually reside there anymore? Why in the Hell would I have any interest there in that region period and in occasion faced having gotten stuck in Haiti during their stupid uprisings? Why do I find myself going into provincial areas and getting stuck in rugged roads when people are being kidnapped and killed by road bandits trying to bring school supplies to children in both Haiti and Dominican Republic. What have you done for Haiti if you are such a true proud Haitian? What have you done for Dr if you are such a true proud Dominican? Yeah exactly. why is it that most of the members of my organizations are not Haitians nor Dominicans and always more Happy to go there with me when all I hear from Haitians and Dominicans are excuses why they cannot go or come with me?

Since both Dominicans and Haitians are so smart and most of you are well within adult Age to start being pro-active why I do not hear any of you say or tell stories of your travels on the Island and educate the youths of tomorrow to stir away from the Racist views and sentiments or resentments that is deteriorating the beauty of the Island?

La pe Jaboa, la pe. Pa kale li. Now back to the topic. I think there needs to be a complete revamping of the Tourism Department in Haiti. Another thing that I was thinking about "Mon frere" is maybe the Haitian goverment can spur people from other parts of the world to move there(preferably Europeans). I think this can be achieved if some massive plublic work projects was initiated and this would allow the gov't to give out free visas. This was done in Panama and it is currently happening in Dubai. Another thing that can also work is the reinstatement of the whole agriculture industry. Put a heavy tax on imported US rice and grow your own like we did in the 50's. What you guysthink about some of my proposals?

Like I said, the only person who suffers from any sense of inferiority is you "Dude" Nothing is ever good enough for Haitians and all they seem to be doing is complaining without ever making any effort to rise up to the challenges they face together as a Nation. If there is one thing your ignorant ass is right about is that this is not about you or me or race since you all made it and turned it into a racial issues which has contributed to all the "supposedly" social conflicts both Nations are feeding and fueling with hate. So no, you get a hold of yourself "dude" and I know who and what I am and always will be.

Funny I like how you have ignored the part where it says all of you on here are all about talk and no action. What have you done in Haiti for Haiti... Where is any kind of record that shows you are participating in anything to fix anything in Haiti? What do you have to show as something meaningful you have done in Haiti or for Haiti? As for those of you in the Diasporas all over, what are the efforts you have partaken into to make any kind of differences there? Yet I am sure you all have all the right negative criticisms, views, opinions, suggestions and recommendations meanwhile have yet to put any of them into applicable actions.

Ridicule all you want my dream for a unifying Hispaniola yet while both Nations can still remain sovereign and independently civil, at least I am acting on my dream and not just talk about it. I can go to a Government Official and show them my record knowing that I can contribute even if it has to be in the Military Domain and Services, but how many of you cowards can say and do the same but just talk your asses out? from reading anything you have to say, I see how much of a fact it is that you do not even know of Haitian culture yourself leave alone to ever try to have any comprehensive idea to ever understand the stances of Dominicans on the certain issues and conflicts that exist between Haiti and DR. Yet all you imbecile uneducated Haitians ( Not the literate, smart and intelligent ones) ever want to do is wanting to be right and play victims all the time. What can you say to your little brothers and sisters that you have accomplished in the struggles to help Haiti get to any level of Self-sufficiency? Yes, exactly, nothing.

For decades of generations of generations Haitians have been migrating seeking better lives abroad of which I am sure many have earned degrees and have acquired skills, yet how many of them have ever sacrificed in ever going back to Haiti and put at work those degrees and skills? Yeah, my point exactly; hardly any ever. I ask you all this question directly and personally.

You see the thing is, as long as some Haitians know where their next piece of bread and Chicken are coming from by working measly jobs abroad, they could care less about Haiti's problem nor the conflicts that both Nations share on the Island. That is the least of their worries. Yet I am the one who is confused huh.

Like I have asked you all. How many of you have participated in any humanitarian effort in Haiti or anywhere else around the world. In fact my whole life had pretty much been devoted to helping others and public service of some kind. What is your worthless life have to show? Yeah, I would much rather be rejected by both of you Haitian and Dominican F4cks who want to kill each other, but I still want peace and unity than to be a prideful ignorant F4ck like yourself who has done nothing, and I mean nothing and you know it, to help Haiti, or any cause pertaining to the Island. Since you must have the last word, go ahead and shine and show me what you have to show... anything meaningful you have done beside rambling gibberish. No, nigga you please. Or better yet in your case and favorite word "Nigger" please since this is the slave term you are most used and allow yourself to still be enslave and subject to. Talking about who needs help. You have not made clear anything, although you may think you have, but go ahead make yourself feel happy by thinking you have proven a point or any at all.

RE: How is living in Haiti?
I am honored that I can help you all to take you focus off hating each other and turning all that anger toward me. No biggie and meanwhile, I can gladly say I have partaken parts in The Dream Project in the Dominican Republic where we helped build schools and train teachers to teach both young Haitian and Dominican children living in the Dominican Republic and provide them with books and school materials. Can you say the same?

I can say proudly that I have volunteered and have been in many Aide relief missions in both Haiti and the Dominican Republic during many natural disasters. Can you say the same?

I can say I physically have met Sonia Pierre who is an activist fighting for Human Rights Causes among other activists for both Dominican and Haitians, principally people of Dominican born of Haitian descents. Among those activists some of them are Dominicans as well. Can you say the same?

I have donated money to many non-profit organizations and I have conducted many fundraisers to bring food and agricultural tools to Haitian provinces like Thiothes, Petite Riviere De Nipe and others. As well as I have invested money in businesses in both Countries. I can walk with my head up high and say I am not all talk because I have been part of the actions in Haiti and DR causes. Can you say the same?

Because I have been to those locations first hand and have witness the aspects of the situation up close and personal like in cities like Dajabon, DR and Ouaniminthe, Haiti. Because I have been to Montellano, DR and Cite Soleil where I have assessed the living condition of both citizens on the Island and which that have inspired me to want to start my own organizations that are underway that will cater to the social challenges of both Nations. Can you say the same?

I have sent money to people who are not even family nor actual friends, but simply people I have came into contact with while traveling both Haiti and DR almost every other year.

At least, I am passionate about involving as well as committing myself for the betterment of the cause and do not just come on here being a grown ass man who has not done or taken part of any of these things. My damn, people used to be part of something from the age of 18 and up and nowadays they are 38 years old and all they can do and are doing is point out opinions and criticize and hate.

I have been to two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. I am going to school as a Film major with three minors Political Science, Sociology and Economics as well as I am a Marines who is now a United States Army Cadet and who wishes to one day utilize this to be part of a delegation in Haiti and I will be willing to train troops in the event Haiti were to want to re-instituted their Armed Forces as I have done and helped trained Dominican and Iraqi troops in Dominican Republic and Iraq and I am only 28 years old. Do you see the difference between you and I dear "dude"? So I feel and understand your pain, you actually are taking into consideration how useless you are of an excuse of a human being. So let us talk inferiority again.

GO AHEAD BRAG ABOUT SOMETHING YOU HAVE DONE THAT IS BEYOND YOURSELF AND FOR A CAUSE, I DARE YOU; BECAUSE I CAN.

RE: How is living in Haiti?

Short story: A Haitian had a business and an Arab which had purchased from his business and owed the Haitian money never actually pays the Haitian. so the Haitian went to the Arab and asked for the money and the Arab looked at him and told him since you have been bothering me for that money I will not pay back and the Arab spit in the Haitian's face and cursed him F4ck you and pushed him out his house and slam the door in the Haitian's face. The Haitian does nothing but wipe the mucus and walked.

Now that same Haitian had another Haitian who owed him money as well but that other Haitian was going through some hardship and cannot pay. The Haitian who owned the business raised all kind of hell until the other Haitian cursed his mother in Creole but never said that he will not pay him back. Instead all he said when I have the money I will pay you even if it is the last thing I do on earth.

That same Haitian whom the Arab had spit on his face got so angry with that other Haitian and say that he is going back to Haiti to kill him via Voodoo and suffice enough to say he did. Now what is the moral of this story?

It happens in New York with Haitians always getting beat up by Jamaicans and never raise an eye brow back, and when Dominicans have talked down to them in the Lunch room they bow their heads and walk away; yet when it is with other Haitians like themselves, hell has no greater fury to the amount toughness and animosity they show to one another. Thus there is the future of HAITI.
