Haiti's tyrannical legacy has left it's imprint in the landscape, centuries of corrupt governance led by the likes of emperors, military dictators and presidents has left this once lush green nation into a man made desert. Reforestation projects have been accomplished but none have been successful, as the tree's come up they are soon cut down. Due to the precious commodity that charcoal has become in the poorest country in the western hemisphere. In this thread i want to focus on the haitian threat of deforestation and the impact it has on the whole island. This threat naturally extends into the Dominican Republic, as many illegal haitian tree cutters cross the border and cut down trees on the dominican side of the island for profit, and because of the lack of tree's in haiti the Dominican Republic has become ground zero of this ill fated practice. It is evident that the Dominican state has set laws that are enforced to protect it's forests, but those that seek to make a living and those that need charcoal for daily survival have become natures enemy that undermine law and life itself. Deforestation will become our demise if we let it defeat us as a sovereign nation.
