I don't think Dominicans and Haitians relation is the source of the problem, Dominicans have problems with them self .( yes just like you read it )
I was on the plane traveling to Dominican republic ( I live in DR now) , I laugh when I hear the hostess complaining about Dominicans who don't want to fill to immigration form as Dominicans . I thought that was a joke but later I realized that Dominicans are living a lie and a life of denials. I met people that can barely feed theirs families but will find a way to drive a "jeepeta" drink at the "colmado" more than they earn, cannot pay their rent but follow the neighbor in a vocation trip, Dress "lacoste" to the gym ,kids that carry the last Iphone when they cannot pay the school tuition ( by the way that phone is 10-20% functional in DR) Etc...... just to show off .

As for the relation Dominicans and Haitians : huh!! Dominicans cannot stand blacks ,it is synonym to ugly poor etc..they are calling themself "Moreno" brunette or "Indio" from india ?oh my God !! " rubia " or "Blanca" wow not in my world. they don't have "VOODOO" like Haitians do but "Santaria " ironic you will find the same gods and goddess just in a Dominican way(based on my personal research, lol I have been in these places) . Food?? "comida criolla" like everywhere in the Caribbean where African culture predominate .
Next time you see a Dominican ask him/her what is the family line , here is the most common answers ( Come on, try it yourself lol) oh!! Angletierra , Igles, frances, Italianos Arabic etc... guess what ? the phenotype tells you just the contrary all have the african features : Big lips , BIG Butts( so much pride) , kinky hair , dark skin, (negrito behind the ear , oh !! remember pellos bueno y pellos malo lol) etc...even diseases that run in the family are the more common diseases of african descent ( hypertension, Diabetes etc..) BUT they want to be anything except African descent.

hey!! You don't have to agree with me check it yourself, it is on MIAMI HERALD someone with a lot of more time in they hands have put this article together based on RESEARCH .( I am not forging fact ,like some of you do, anyway what do I care)
A friend Howard David tells a lot in Coloring the Nation read it ( knowledge for free) in reference to his book :Race and Ethnicity in the Dominican Republic. Oxford: Signal Books, 2001. 227 pp.

I don't want to embed any differences and contradictions in the article but I believe that to understand the relation Dominicans/Haitians or should I say Haitians/Dominicans one need to accept theses facts . Again based on my research (beyond my opinion) : Haitians are more proud of their blackness than dominican it has been written in their constitution that every Haitian is BLACK regardless of the skin tone . Huh !!! interesting ,have you heard of "POST TRAUMATIC SLAVE SYNDROME" ?I am afraid that DR is suffering from that.
Do you thing after all these denials Dominicans would ever accept Haitians? I don't think so . If you want to know my opinion , Dominicans are not Blacks they don't have the guts for that, Haitian are. That is the problem in the relation.
Dominicans don't hate Haitians , they hate them self by looking at their own pictures in the mirror, they want to look different .

It´s so sad that you think of us that way, specially when every nation of the freaking planet posess what is called national prejudice, commonly known as xenophobia, one in less degree than others, but this sentiment is shared by everyone of them, and we dominicans should be classified among the least xenophobic on the entire planet, considering that the haitians and their descendants comprise roughly a 25% of our population, a percentage that would not be accepted on another country (not the US or the Japan, that's for certain). If you don´t believe me, mr. know-it-all Johnny Mnemonic, try calling korean, chinese or ainu (the indigenous people of the japanese islands) to a japanese national, and see what you'll get for all your trouble. And all for the fact that you might be one of those people that foolishly ignore the fact that just because some people might be sharing some DNA doesn't mean that they may be sharing the same set of cultural values nor views about life. But seeing as how you might have been educated by the "one drop of blood system" of the USA (a foolish system, if any), then you might be excused for your mistake, although I'll advise you to drop that view of putting everyone on the same basket using the fact of their sharing a phenotype, because, more often than not, that has been the mistake that have put gringos in tight situations time and again when dealing with the rest of the world.

Hey, Uh, Arc. I don't know what you're trying to prove by posting some amateur video by someone who is neither Dominican or Haitian saying that Haiti is not the DR. Obviously it isn't. If you want to prove the OBVIOUS, about how the two separate countries are not one (duh!), you don't have to post some tourists "groundbreaking revelation" about the situation.

ARCATYPE: First off the person on the video is a dominican woman she's not a tourist and second everything that you said is irrelavent. And everything she said is true, your ignorance is what makes your country the garbage bin of the caribbean.

ARCATYPE: The only people with a slave mentality are haitians that are living in the 18th century and discriminate each other and guess what you guys are dark as night, the mulatto influence in Haiti is insignificant and a white haitian is like finding a needle in a hay stack. The Dominican Republic if anything is more of a mixed society we did not have in our ranks a super racist like Jean Jacques Dessalines that massacred all the french white which were a tiny minority in Haiti. Yeah be proud of your revolution when you have 500,000 africans against 40,000 whites, what the hell is that !!!!! It's called a bum rush you idiot. What chances of anyone surviving that, i suggest you pick up a book "militant afrocentrist"? and learn more about racism concerning Haiti before you start spewing your elementary logic toward's' others. http://www.binghamton.edu/fbc/dupuy.pdf http://www.biodiversityforum.com/showthread.php5?t=34535&highlightdessalines+slaughter+whites

RE: Dominicans and Haitians, what is the problem?
The most dangerous wepons that exist on this earth is IGNORANGE, and this is your best credit I can give you "ARCATYPE". You think of what so ever crap and take it for a fact and worse of it you are spreading your own crappy creations.Where is the hell did you get that ..... that is your own version of Haitian Revolution . Go educate yourself and then come back to the forum when you ready .

I don't speak or write for idiot like you, go read some books ,before posting any trash .I like Dominican Republic and Dominicans and dislike "DUMB IN A CAN" like you.

What you are doing is a crime in some country they call it " perjure on a nation". Actually as you get very personal Haiti is not my nation but Haitians are my People.
Racist is not a crime yet , You have the right to express your self, your feelings etc..toward to others but there is a MORAL to keep, you are not in the streets of SANTO DOMINGO or any other jungles like you OWN the forum . Other people are reading in the forum and you owe them respects as much as you deserve yours. You are just MORALLY WRONG ,OBSCENE,lewd , nefarious . SHAME on you boy .
You think that you are racist ( such a nice word ) wait until you see how Dominicans are being treated in Spanish Harlem , in Canada, Madrid etc... Have you talk to them ??

As much as we are Blacks ,Dominicans, Puerto Rican , Cubans, Caribbean in general ,African-American we are enjoy the legacy of the historical impact of the Haitian Revolution and it was far beyond the small Island .
Before you start judging people look for your own IDENTITY, don't be illusionist you are just promoting others.

Guess who send me to read a book ???

ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW. (AS I'M FALLING OFF MY CHAIR LAUGHING HYSTERICALLY!) mnemonic I saw what you were saying when I went there. And as crazy and true as all of that is, for some reason I still love the country- DR.(part of the reason why I like to read Dominican Today). Yeah I said it, I love it. yeah, the one where my people are killing themselves to get a piece of bread. BUT, yes, yes, yes, there is a "BUT", they're killing themselves for the same thing in their own country. And back in Haiti Dominicanos might not be there putting them down, but they're doing it to themselves in they're country- in more ways than one(the haitians). I love my peeps, but I love the DR too. One might think "ooh, she's conflicted, she's a traitor, she's a front-runner". Nope. I just see the situation and I can't help but be neutral. Hate it or love it. PEACE!

Okay so why the heck am I and the rest of my (dare I say it) HAITIAN family up in the states as citizens if not natural born citizens. Excuse me, isn't the US supposedly a melting pot of different ethnicities and people. So why wouldn't Haitians be accepted Lautaro?!. Look if you meant illegally be clear on that. If not, then now you're taking a blanket-statement jab at me and I ain't feelin' it, ya dig?!
That's not how you play! Be cool with your words, don't pull a Don Imus.
