I don't know about the "bringing a gun" thing (exaggeration of crime or is it fact?) but I'm pretty sure that crime isn't as rampant and uncontrolled in SD as say to the favelas of Rio or even Port-au-Prince with its huge spike in kidnappings for example. I take caution everywhere I go so naturally I'll do the same when I decide to go to DR. If I go I'll make it a point to go with a Dominican friend and I'll most likely venture to Santiago in addition to the capital. Mwen ta renmen ale pou plezi (yon ti vakans) e pou asesman peyi. Shin In Haiti, they do not kidnapped just anybody you know. Most of the kidnappings have either been Family Internal knowledge of some kind of business transaction that a member might have to go do in Haiti and their knowledge of them knowing you really have money, or my guess and speculation is it is being supported by higher ups even possibly Governmental Officials of Foreign influenced who wish to see an unstable Haiti. Of course many would say that it is just someone trying to place the blame on the work of the World International Body; but it is not that far fetch. Just go to Santiago, believe me you are not missing anything by not going to Santo Domingo. Wa sonje m'te di'w sa oke tet di... ale Sanntyago pito... there is everything you need there in Santiago, kid. Take my word for it!!! Edited on 6/19/2008 12:12 AM by EasyDoesIt. |

Don't bring a gun even if crime was high. You could get shot because of bringing it. The first thing you have to ask yourself is what do you want to do when you come to the DR. For cities, SD is better if you like shopping or if you want to go to the historic part (Zona Colonial, which is pretty safe). The botanical garden is nice also. But apart from those places I'm not sure what else you'd like to visit that is inside Santo Domingo. Shin, Remember I told you SD is not the place you want to go regardless of the big hypes. When I say bring a gun, of course you are not going to go around and flash it and be trigger happy. I have been in a couple of situations myself personally when had I not had my gun to fire it up in the Air or I just show them my gun as they were planing to circle around me. I probably would have been dead by now had I not shot my gun up. Anyway I will give you my email if you want me to hook you up with some people protections and connections, I got that. I have given you many areas where you could go, but we all know curiosity killed the cat right? Like I said, if you do plan on going to SR, make sure it is for only a couple of hours. I would not even get a Hotel there. You might go to the Mall and shop and by the time you get to the parking lot someone ask you to give it. PS: Most of the guys in DR are those who are trying to imitate the lifestyle of Americans here in the States and most of them are former gang member deportees getting in the head of the Tigres over there who are often high on drugs or drunk. Tigre in English means Tiger is what they call gang members there in DR. In Kreyol it is pronounced Tigele. My home girl's boyfriend went to DR and her boyfriend got shot dead in the head and he was Dominican... Cool cat, I know him too. Now he is dead for what... they did not even ask him for his chain, they just simply ran up on him and shot him dead kid... Edited on 6/19/2008 12:09 AM by EasyDoesIt. |
