Another disaster in air: Yemeni plane crashes with 150 on board

A month after the Air France crash, a Yemeni airliner with 150 people on board has crashed in the Indian Ocean near the Comoros islands, northwest of Madagascar.

The Yemeni government officials confirmed the crash, saying it happened early on Tuesday.

The airliner belonging to Yemeni state carrier Yemenia Air crashed with 150 people on board.

Officials have not been able to confirm the exact accident site, but have said the plane went down off the Comoros islands in the Indian Ocean.

The Comoros vice president said they didn't know if there were any survivors just yet.

According to BBC, the details of the flight are also unknown, but there was a flight from Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, which was a connecting flight from Paris.

Jet Goes Down in Indian Ocean With 153 Aboard

MORONI, Comoros (Reuters) — An airliner with 153 people on board and belonging to Yemen’s state carrier, Yemenia Air, crashed in the Indian Ocean, apparently near the archipelago of Comoros, early Tuesday morning, according to a senior government official and a Yemenia Air official.

“We don’t know if there are any survivors,” Idi Nadhoim, vice president of Comoros, said from the airport at Moroni, the capital of the main island, Grande Comore. Mr. Nadhoim said the accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, but he could not provide more details.

The airline said the plane, an Airbus 310, was carrying 142 passengers and 11 crew members.

The location of the crash was not immediately known, but a medical worker in the town of Mitsamiouli, on Grande Comore, said he had been called into the local hospital.

“They have just called me to come to the hospital,” he said. “They said a plane had crashed.”

A Comoran police official said the plane was believed to have gone down in the ocean. “We really have no sea rescue capabilities,” he said.

Comoros is 190 miles northwest of Madagascar and a similar distance east of the mainland of Africa.

These airbuses should be grounded,until further notice.Very difficult to explain why they are not able to handle high turbulences, there must some design flaw here since they are falling like rock from the sky. My next trip will not be in an airbus.
