A furious President Barack Obama ordered an internal review of Monday's low-flying photo op over the Statue of Liberty.

CBS 2 HD has discovered the feds will have plenty to question.

Federal officials knew that sending two fighter jets and Air Force One to buzz ground zero and Lady Liberty might set off nightmarish fears of a 9/11 replay, but they still ordered the photo-op kept secret from the public.

In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD the Federal Aviation Administration's James Johnston said the agency was aware of "the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes" in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor's office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out.

What are your feelings on federal officials demanding the NYC flyover be kept secret by the NYPD and the mayor's office?

"To say that it should not be made public knowing that it might scare people it's just confounding," Sen. Charles Schumer said. "It's what gives Washington and government a bad name. It's sheer stupidity."

The flyover -- apparently ordered by the White House Office of Military Affairs so it would have souvenir photos of Air Force One with the Statue of Liberty in the background -- had President Obama seeing red. He ordered a probe and apologized.

"It was a mistake. It will never happen again," President Obama said.

The NYPD was so upset about the demand for secrecy that Police Commissioner Ray Kelly vowed never to follow such a directive again and he accused the feds of inciting fears of a 9/11 replay.

"Did it show any insensitivity to the psychic wounds New York City has after 9/11? Absolutely. No questions about it. It was quite insensitive."

The cost of the frivolous flight was about $60,000 an hour and that was just for Air Force One. That doesn't include the cost of the two F-16s that came along.....what morons

If only my people would just keep track of the "NOOSE"!

Sunday, Ms. Janet Napolitano Secretary of the Dept. of Home-Land Security declared a national Heath Emergency because of the Swine Flu (Pandemic) threat.

Monday, Air Force One or Two (who knows) flew at a low altitude followed by a fighter aricraft around the Statue of Liberty and headed towards Lower Manhattan; then flew parallel to Manhattan over the Hudson River.... Almost near the same area where that stange commercial aircraft made an emercency ditch after taking off from La Guardia Airport...Remember Sully Sulleberger and his 15 minutes of fame.. all over the news, etc....Strange???



Does anyone else see a sinister trend here? Or, are we instead looking for Waldo?

On April 23, I read a small article in the Times online about infectious disease samples that were stolen from the army bioweapons labs of Fort Detrick, MD. I tried to access this article but it seems to have disappeared. Is the current swine flu epidemic related to the stolen viruses? Why was that article removed from the Times server?

Why is California in a state of emergency with less than 5 cases and NY has 40 and we are told to go about routinely? My feeling is that Air Force One Flyover may have been to get the last pictures of New York as a functioning city. Did Obama attempt to spray something over New York not realizing we would be watching? Does anyone else have a sore throat?

The offensive culminated early Monday with President Obama's Air Force One maneuvers over Manhattan's Financial District, which succeeded in scaring an assortment of unreformed executives out of their skyscrapers and disrupting their shameless, barely regulated profiteering.

At a press briefing today, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs explained the move as part of this Administration's unwavering effort to put the fear of government into Wall Street bankers. "We acted on solid intelligence about pockets of resistance in the Financial District that are threatening our efforts to pacify the banking industry by nationalizing its assets," Gibbs said.

"Just as China occasionally conducts military maneuvers near Taiwan to remind the tiny island of its flimsy renegade status," added Gibbs, "the White House was also forced to flex its presidential muscle and send a low-flying Air Force One plane into the renegade southern tip of the island of Manhattan, tracing the path of the 9/11 hijackers. It worked in 2001, and I don't see why we should abandon successful strategies only because they originated in a formerly unfriendly culture - that would be xenophobic. This administration is willing to learn from the international community, which can offer many spectacular success stories of government suppression of economic and individual freedoms."

The effectiveness of such strategy was evident in many eyewitness testimonies collected by members of the media in the streets of New York and New Jersey.

Gerry Karpinsky, a broker at Goldman Sachs, says he was terrified. "We all ran to the window, and I thought, that's it, American chickens are coming home to roost again. Our company has wronged the government badly - by not handling subprime loans in the past, and also rejecting the bailout money today. So I was pretty sure we would all die. It seemed especially tragic since many of us voted for Barack Obama and, on a personal level, we fully supported his efforts to redress his personal grievances as a representative of various minorities whom Goldman Sachs has victimized by resisting the government's control and expansion."

To answer this question we contacted Professor Ward Churchill, a renowned expert in the field of American Imperial Arrogance and Criminality, who has famously addressed a similar inquiry in a book titled On the Justice of Roosting Chickens.

"True enough, they were civilians of a sort. But innocent? Gimme a break. If there was any other way of punishing the little Eichmanns inhabiting the sterile sanctum of Wall Street, I'd really be interested in hearing about it

The $328,835 snapshots of an Air Force One backup plane buzzing lower Manhattan last week will not be shown to the public, the White House said yesterday.

"We have no plans to release them," an aide to President Obama told The Post, refusing to comment further.
The sole purpose of the secret photo-op, which sent thousands of New Yorkers running for cover, was to take new publicity shots of the presidential jet over the city.

"The photos . . . are classified -- that's ridiculous," Councilman Peter Vallone Jr., said.

New Yorkers said they could not understand how a president who shares intimate snapshots from the White House could justify classifying these.

"So we're not gonna see the fruits of this cruel joke?" said Frank Antonelli, 39, one of the Wall Street traders spooked by last week's flyover.

"I'm not surprised. Obama . . . wouldn't further all the bad publicity by putting out those pictures

After Flyover of Air Force One Backup, Military Office Director Resigns

The director of the White House Military Office submitted his resignation on Friday, less than two weeks after he authorized a flyover by an Air Force One backup of the Statue of Liberty that terrified thousands of people in New York City.

Louis Caldera, who served as the secretary of the Army in the Clinton administration, apologized for the “distraction” that approving the flyover caused. He said in a brief letter to President Obama on Friday that it “has made it impossible for me to effectively lead the White House Military Office.”

On April 27, a plane that usually serves as the president’s plane was flying low over the New York City skyline, trailed closely by two fighter jets. It was a photo opportunity – authorized by several government officials, including Mr. Caldera – that infuriated Mr. Obama.

Last week, Mr. Obama ordered a deputy chief of staff, Jim Messina, to review the incident. And on Friday afternoon, a seven-page review of the matter was released, along with the photograph.

Mr. Messina, in his memorandum to the president, said that “structural and organizational ambiguities” in the White House Military Office led to a series of miscommunications and senior aides to the president were not advised of the flyover that had been in the planning stages since March.

“The breakdown was the lack of public notification,” the memorandum states, adding that Mr. Caldera believed others had been notified about the flight.

“If he had been aware that the flight would cause so much trouble or any embarrassment to the president or to the White House,” the report said, “he never would have allowed it to go forward.
