lakiskeyana:
"Historically, this island has not been known as Santo Domingo. "

And you're basing this on what?

Thank you Manhattanite, one of the reasons we're running this campaign is exactly that trouble issues will always be present all the times. This is not a trouble issue; this is a long overdue solution to a long time historical, geographical, grammatical and patriotic mistake. Also, there are certain omission errors.

Gizmo Listen you aint changing the name of a nation that bares the name of a great revolutionary Juan Pablo Duarte. What are you part of the "conspiracy" are you part of an N.G.O., what do you mean by and i quote " This is not trouble issue; this is a long overdue solution to a long time historical, geographical, grammatical and patriotic mistake. Also, there are certain ommission errors. " can you elaborate this last sentence. Just to clarify i'm not worried for a name change it wont happen, that's something that you wish but how many people have posted in this thread agreeing with you're position none!!!!! KEEP ON DREAMING.

Thank you Gizmo, like Duarte and many other "dreamers" I will continue looking for supporters. You can go on with your life, but in the future you will see how the true always comes to surface. Your National Anthem, if you know it, calls us "Quisqueyans" and the name of our land, our country "Quisqueya". It was written by "Trinitarians" before Juan Pablo Duarte died. He was the first Patriot buried with this song in 1884.
You are not Spaniard. Dominican was the name Spain gave to those Spaniards living in the island of Santo Domingo since 1621.
We've been confused (intentionally or not) by dictators, tyrants and historians about the name chosen by the "Trinitarians" for the land, our country.
In the Statement the Trinitarians sworn to established a State that will be "DENOMINATED" Dominican Republic. THAT IS NOT THE NAME OF THE COUNTRY. That is the classification, style, form of State (government). The one in charge of writing the law, executing the law and administer justice. KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.

We are QUISQUEYAN first. It is our proper adjective, not a borrowed one.

Gizmo We are not Spaniards we are not Africans we are not Kiskeyans either, we are Dominicans. At the end of the day we are all peppered by these three groups, but you're not bright enough to understand the context which the word Quisqueya was used in our national anthem and it's generic use to identify us as a people. Our founder was a criollo of direct Spanish descent, they were the main ethnic group that were targetted by the Haitians, and most fought bravely in the front lines to give us our freedom, something that you're not capable in comprehending due to you're limited brain power and cowardness. Juan Pablo Duarte was a real man a visionary and more importantly a revolutionary that gave his last cent for a noble cause, our freedom from the miserable yoke imposed by Haiti's dominion. And as for the name of the country "Dominicana" it should not be removed because of cowards like yourself, people in D.R. with a sense of patriotism know that more than ever as a nation of people, we need to dissect the enemy within and you sadly are part of that group. Let me tell you something lastly, if the name "Quisqueya" had taken so much precedent as you personally and without any facts have come up with such lame conclusions, as an objective to prove you're point. Then why the name wasn't changed from the onset when the founder of our nation Juan Pablo Duarte y Diez officially named the country Republica Dominicana. I tell you why because the inhabitants were known as Dominicans since the 18th century and even beyond that period of time, and rightfully so. Their would be plenty of time to change the name and it never took place thanks to people with consciousness that value what our founding fathers did for us and what they stood for.

RE: QUISQUEYA is the name of the land occupied by the State denominated Dom. Rep.
Well Gizmo, you asked for it. Some one who fought and was willing to give his life to defend the principles set forth by Juan Pablo Duarte of having a country free and independent of foreign powers is not a coward. Besides, It looks to me that you don't undertand that Juan Pablo Duarte didn't name the country "Dominican Republic", that in his own words he "DENOMINATED" the republic, Dominican Republic, due that name of the country had not yet surface because the confusion about the island being named Haiti.
Now, don't be so proud Dominican, since you are a common dominican together with Haitians, Dominicans from Dominica and Dominicans from the Order of Santo Domingo.
I am a proud Quisqueyan and will use all the power I can get to make this point until it is understood by our people. Quisqueyan will be a real, proper and exclusive adjective for each of us, While still being dominicans because of the name of the island (Santo Domingo), shared by Haiti, making them dominicans too, as we are americans together with all people from the continent called America.
I suggest that you respect our opinion and stop using derogative names. Keep this place clean.

Gizmo Well i be damned you finally revealed your true machiavellian intentions and augmentated you're true colors, and i quote you. " It looks to me that you don't understand that Juan Pablo Duarte didn't name the country "Dominican Republic", that in his own words he "DENOMINATED" the republic, Dominican Republic due that name of the country had not yet surface because the confusion about the island being named Haiti." Let me explain to you something very simple and of clear historical relevance the inhabitants of the east never called themselves 'Haitians', and that's a fact! they called themselves Dominicans. The inhabitants of the east were never fond of the blood thirsty black crusading invaders of Haiti, because of the attrocities perpetrated by the self liberated slaves of said country in the Spanish side of the island. And most importantly the differences in race, culture and customs and non allegiance to the people of the west were major factors in upholding there identity as Dominicans. I quote you a second time " Now, don't be so proud Dominican, since you are common dominican together with Haitians " Are you serious!... We are not, a one island nation we are two distinct peoples since the colonial period till our independence from Haiti in 1844 to presently. And we will continue being two different nations the Dominican Republic and it's people were and are known as Dominican people. And Haiti as a separate entity, and it's people were known and are presently Haitians, so please stop dreaming of a one island nation it will not happen. Look below know where you belong!

RE: QUISQUEYA is the name of the land occupied by the State denominated Dom. Rep.
This is what I realy reveal here:
That in the Hatian Constitution the name of the island is Haiti:** CHAPTER II
TERRITORY OF THE HAITIAN REPUBLIC
ARTICLE 8:
The territory of the Haitian Republic comprises:
a) The western part of the island of Haiti and the adjacent islands of La Gonâve, la Tortue, l'Ile à Vâche, les Cayemites, La Navase, la Grande Caye and the other islands of the Territorial Sea;
b) It is bounded on the east by the Dominican Republic, on the north by the Atlantic Ocean, on the south and west by the Caribbean Sea or Sea of the Antilles;
c) The air space over the land and sea of the Republic.

That in the Constitution of the State known as Dominican Republic the name of the island is Santo Domingo:
SECCION II - DEL TERRITORIO
ART. 5.- El territorio de la República Dominicana es y será inalienable. Está integrado por la parte oriental de la Isla de Santo Domingo y sus islas adyacentes. Sus límites terrestres irreductibles están fijados por el Tratado Fronterizo de 1929, y su Protocolo de Revisión de 1936.
(Spanish version)

If Haiti signed a treaty in 1929 agreeing that Santo Domingo is the name of the island, then Haitian Constitution must be corrected.

What I reveal is that the portion of the land occupied by the State known as Dominican Republic should be named Quisqueya to honor the trinitarians and our National Anthem, thus, differenciating and keeping our society appart from Haiti, although sharing the same island. If the whole island name is Santo Domingo, then Hatians are dominicans too! If we are Quisqueyan, that will be our main identity, no matter what we share with other societies, countries or communities in the world.

Gizmo, in the island of Santo Domingo we're all DOMINICANS
Gizmo, the people occupying the 1/3 Western part of the island are all HATIANS
Gizmo, the people occupying the 2/3 Eastern part of the island are all QUISQUEYANS

GET IT! Don't sing your National Anthem if you don't want to swallow this!

Ha ha ha ha, you forgot two others my friend. What about Haiti and Bohio. I did not know that the Hateros were big dreamers and idealists.

No, this island name is either Haiti, Quisqueya or Bohio. Now for two hundred years you have stuck to your stupid Dominican Republic name, why do you want to steal now one of the three names by which our country is known? You are more thieves than the arabs. I think we Haitians will have to copyright our country names in order to save them from little Dominicans thieves suffering from inferiority syndrom. Keep calling yourselves indians or whatever you wish, we haitians know who we are and where we come from and that's what make our strength.

Gizmo Save the long postings with information that have no imperative facts or relevancy to the matter at hand you child. In 1804 Haiti became an independent country from France. The Spanish two thirds of the island and it's inhabitants were known as Dominicans, and in 1844 the country was named after the denomination of it's people Dominican Republic. So go ahead keep thinking to yourself, and make believe that you will ever change the name of the country, it will never happen! so i'm not worried child.
